Dand 60 Rear hub nut size?

Hi. I've searched the forums for a while so here comes my question. I'm trying to remove the rear hubs on the dana 60 in this 1966 f250 2wd.

Anyone know what size socket to use?

I read in one post where a 2-3/8" was too big but that's the closest measurement I can come up with. I'm heading to the store to get one tomorrow....ur, I mean today.

Anyone know what the correct torque for the pinion nut is?

Also, I am just replacing the pinion and wheel seals. No other changes in the rearend over the factory setup.

Thanks!!

Mine is 2 5/16

Thanks blackwaterforge. I'll give that a shot. I can't imagine my should be any different than what you have.

Check and make sure your vent hose is open.
A clogged up vent hose(usually by mud dobbers) will blow your seals.
A regular 2 5/16 socket will not go into axle housing.
It will have to be an axle socket.
Bought mine off e-bay when I couldn't find one locally.
Spicer model 60 Pinion shaft nut torque to 250-270 per 1965 shop manual.

hey partner , how much was your new pinion? and who sold it to you? I need to get my 4.56 up a bit

99hoss - I didn't actually buy a new pinion gear. I'm just replacing the pinion seal and putting a new nut on. I ordered my parts through Randys Ring and Pinion. They were super nice to talk to.

Also, my Dana 60 needed a 2-3/8" axle nut socket...fyi.

My 66 f250 had a different size nut then the 71 rear end that replaced it so I bought a set of sockets from the tool truck that comes to the shop, spent a little money and only used a couple of the sockets a couple times but will have them now when the need arises.
