Water leak problem
 

my 2003 explorer 4.0 makes this noise like water jumping around under my dashboard on the passenger side. it mainly happens in low gears i dont think ive ever heard it in high ones before. idk if this is relevant to the leak problem but a few days ago my car started leaking water and seams like its from the radiator. ive tried looking for the source when i found it (so i think) its coming from the body of the car to right side of the motor. theres like a little spout or something. ill try to get some pics of it up soon

Sounds like the AC’s condensation pan is stopped–up and full of water. The tube the water is dripping from is designed to let water out and keep trash from getting in. At times trash and etc will get in and restrict it. If you use a screwdriver etc to open it, the trash will probably flow out before the water over flows into your car. Good Luck! Jow

Agreed, the location of the sound and the dripping water is consistent with the A/C evaporator housing drain. Don't stick the screwdriver or wire up any farther than necessary, you don't want to risk puncturing the evaporator core or heater core.

Your radiator getting low really quick has no relations, “That I can think of”. If its getting low really quick, that should make your leak “possibly” easier to find. What steps have you taken toward finding the leak? What indications other than the AC’s weep hole dripping and low water have you noticed that could be related? jow

The water drip could be coolant leaking and also the cause for the low coolant level.

Sounds like it's time for a trip to an experienced mechanic's shop vs larger problems. jow

The water rushing noise can be air going through the heater core due to low coolant level, which is not at all uncommon. Check the evap case drain, fix the coolant leak, and refill the cooling system.

I Agree And Good Point! This time of year, maybe a by pass of connecting the water’s in/out lines will prove the heater core or hose is or is not the source of the leak. Plus, you might smell heat/steam from the vents. Again, A good trusted independent mechanic should give some honest answers before any real engine harm is done. If it’s a heater core, I hope it’s not the type that you will “Have To Call The Bank First”. LOL. jow

Hey thanks for.all ur .help I haven't fixed the problem but I think it is the heater core or a hose ..I'm just waiting for the money ...

My 1993 (in 2009) had a leak so slow it was hard to catch a drip or wet area. It took dye from Oreilly Auto and a black light to detect my plastic radiator was going out. It possibly would have blown at a bad time (on the Hwy or etc) if we h/n gotten aggressive with the dye and black light checking reasonable possibilities. The radiator’s tubes to tank had a very distinct glow with the dye and black light but dry. The light and dye works well because if the coolant had leaked and dried on any parts the light would still show it had leaked.

What is the mileage on you 03 and has it lived a good life until this point?

My question was would I be willing to put a water pump on my 1993. The plastic parts were breaking down at 116,000 mi but the engine d/n burning a drop of oil per 3,000 mi and the V6 could pull a train. Driven 3,000 mi a year since 03, the ignition switch failed and caused a short that fried the main wiring harness and dash only but enough to total it (2010). The Ins valued it at 3,700 and I c/n complain except it taking me 4 mo to find another SUV with a solid rear axle due to fishing and firewood off-road. What would guess my certified, bumper-to-bumper 07 with 43,000 mi is? If I told you it cost more than 20,000 vs the 15,000 with 40,000 the Explorer cost me 15 + years ago, You Have a good Hint!

Wickware .... That's not a bad idea I might have to try that and my explorer has new motor and new trani ... Only a little over a year old IDE say .. 10,000 - 15,000 miles in them both ...
