E-150 No Spark @ Coil

Hello,

I have a problem with a 1994 Econoline 150 with 302, aod. The van suddenly died while driving it. Thinking it was the ICM, that was the first to be replaced. Then went ahead and replaced the Coil as there was no spark there. Then found this diagnosis online:

Part 1 -Ford Ignition Coil Test (4.9L, 5.0L, 5.8L)

Test 1 and 2 tested out ok, I got to test 3, which is testing the ignition coil switching signal and got no pulse from the LED, so then it says go to step 4 to test the pip. After going through that and trying to test the PIP (step 4) when probing the #1 ICM wire (pip signal wire) with the black side on the wire and the red connected to the battery (positive) the LED stays halfway lit. Then when trying to crank the motor the LED appears to blink, but then the motor starts and stays running until I remove the connection to the battery. If I do not have this 'jumper?' connected there is no spark and it just turns over. I am thoroughly confused at this point. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Did you ever figure it out? I had that problem with my truck and found that it was the PIP sensor inside of the distributor. Maybe that test was worded backwards and the red wire on the led goes to the ICM wire and the black to ground.I carry a spare distributor in the truck now just in case it happens again.

Actually I ordered the PIP just to rule it all out since everything else in the ignition line is new. I will post back once it comes in and I get to try it out. It has me baffled, especially the part where it will run if I put that 'jumper' in line!

Replaced the PIP and it worked. Was fun, but it cured the problem. Van back and functional, still have no idea how it ran when 'jumpering'.

PIP

After I built the stroker motor and took it out on it`s maiden voyage it died at the first stop sign.I tried everything to figure it out,and thats when I looked up this sight. Some guys suggested the PIP might be bad,but since I had a brand new MSD billet distributor I had mt doubts but I swapped in the old one and it worked. I called MSD and they said that the PIP sensor that they use is factory Ford. The warranty had expired but they swapped it out for me anyway. That one had me stumped for awhile.
