Weather stripping destroying doors (pics)
Does anyone else have this problem? On both tops of my doors, the weatherstripping is ruining the paint. Ive already lightly sanded and repainted with ford touchup paint the tops of them with help from a car body guy. And its already back.. any recommendations?
it was kind of hard to take pictures of it but here are a few: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/SDC10431.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/SDC10432.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/SDC10434.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...3/SDC10435.jpg right side is the same. paint is also peeling right around the corner of the door, i really need to fix it somehow before it peels on the door :-hair |
My 2002 did that, I retouched the paint but it just happened again.
I imagine the weatherstripping was made to be tight to prevent wind noises. My only thought was that you can buy plastic trim for the edges, at least to prevent the rust marks. I never got around to it though. |
Did it ever get so bad that it started rusting or anything?

Yeah, they do that. Its a truck. You will be fine.

If I still had the ol 2002 I'd be concerned about the wheel wells, and door bottoms for rust before anything else.

This is a question to all of you folks that live up in heavy snow country; is there anyway you can treat the body metal of a vehicle so that the salt won't rust it out?

this is what my truck looks like in the winter before i wash it :(

There are a few threads on the product. It seems to be the overwhelming choice around here for such applications. |

I think it is just that people are lazy and don't want to bother with doing work to there cars. I can't say that for all, but it applies to at least 95% around here in MI. It's just easier to do nothing and then complain about it after the rust starts. Then it is the manufacturers fault for using inferior products to build the cars and trucks.
I have read a few of the threads about the fluid film, seems people like it a lot. I am going to try it this winter. I clean my truck enough during the summer to not have to worry about it, plus now the salt is gone. As far as for the question, can you replace the seals, maybe they are just old and not a soft anymore. Maybe new ones will eliminate the problem. |
To the OP; you could Line-X that spot on the inside of your doors.
