Flathead engine colors
 

Can anyone point me to the factory flathead 239 V8 engine colors for 1952. I have pulled the engine (thanks for the pointers on that) and am in the process of cleaning/de-greasing and glass beading parts and pieces. I would like to keep things as original as possible and want to know what colors go where....... The engine looks to have been a gold/bronze color, but the intake was a silver green color? Any info is greatly appreciated.:-X22

The 52 and 53 truck engines were green. Krylon engine paint "2007 Ford Green" is pretty close, although not exact.

Not my engine, but a great example.
It's a 53, I can only assume the color scheme would be the same as a 52.

the green as stated above for our trucks, or red (according to Vanpelts) but I've never seen a red one in a 52.

here's the engine after I removed it from my 52 F6 it had a stuck valve on the drivers side that I had to remove the head for fixing. this was running it just after the first torque sequence on the head bolts ( had an old timer tell me to run it till warm or just more than warm without water the first head bolt tightening sequence ) then retorque after cool down.

Engine Colors:
Ford engines were generally dark blue in 1949 and changed to bronze in late '49 production through 1951. For 1952 and 1953 the Ford engine was either tangerine red or green. The Ford truck engines were red from 1948 through 1951, and then changed to green for 1952-53.

Thanks for the information guys....I will dive into the glass beading cabinet this weekend to get things cleaned up and painted. I plan on pulling the pan and one rod cap to see what kind of condition this thing is in, hopefully I can just "ring and bearing" her back to life.

Detroit Diesel Alpine Green, Dupli-Color part number DE1618, is very close too and a little easier to find.

Usually black, because they were an add-on. I don't think I've ever seen one engine color.

Chuck has said the green is 1952 Lincoln green and recommended getting it from Bill Hirsch. I've also read that the Detroit Diesel Alpine Green is a very close match. Here are pics of Mark Mossell's (the chassisman) restored Ranger engine. Mark is a purist's purist, so I'm sure what you see is correct. I took these, but there's a couple others with wider angles over in his Hub Garage gallery. Stu

Thanks Stu, that is a nice looking engine....I went ahead and bought the Duplicolor green as I am not necessarily trying to build to that level of detail, but do want it to resemble the OEM look.

Here's mine with the duplicolor green. I used the duplicolor engine primer (gray) as well. On a clean (no-oil) block it is very very solid and sticks well.
