5.4 running rough

The wifes expedition starting running lousy the other day bucks and jerks randomly more often at around 50 mph pulled codes got lean bank1 and lean bank2 couldn't find a vacuum leak cleared codes still runs bad no codes for a couple of days pulled a pending code misfire cyl 1 this morning any thoughts where to start?

You have indicated a 5.4, what truck, what year? What are the codes for the lean conditions; for the cylinder 1 misfire? Are the lean codes gone now? Lucky as to checking cylinder 1, as it is a straightforward check as to effort. Take the cop out, check it visually and also measure the resistance (primary and secondary) to ensure it is within specs. For example, on a 98 (and 2000 5.4), the primary is right at 0.55 ohms, and the secondary should be ~5.5K ohms. Check the boot/spring for deterioration. Check the plugs for condition and proper seating etc. Not enough information to go on here, just throwing out some ideas.......

Well, on a Ford there is no 'pending' code, it either is or it isn't....its like being pregnant. If it is a 301, then your coil pack is probably bad on cyl. 1, piece of cake to take care of. If you have the time, you can get them cheap on eBay or at your local store for around $45-50 (Ford is $99).
Along with aba4430 post (no such thing as too much info), how many miles since the last plug change? If your over 100,000, then you may have a set of plugs that need replacing because your electrodes may be burned down. On my '97 I can usually go 110-120k.

As for the lean bank condition, once you give us the rest of your vehicle info, then we can go from there. I was actually going to be posting an article I am writing on the lean bank condition code.

Sorry the vehicle is a 2001 expedition as for the code the cel was not on but when I put the scanner on it that is when I got the misfire code and I was mistaken I went back out to the truck and it is cyl.2 . It has been about 40,000 since the plugs have been changed. I am off to the parts store to get some plugs and boots, fuel filter, and some other goodies.Air filter and oil were changed recently. Sorry almost forgot it has around 148,000 miles on it.

You shouldn't need to change plugs then, just the COP.

I finally got my parts in and installed new plugs new cop's and a new fuel pressure regulator truck still has a miss in it got code for lean bank 1. I also noticed that the pcv valve sounds like it is vibrating or pulsating I don't know how else to explain it but you can hear it, is this normal?

Well, the beauty of the Ford ODB II is that it tells you which COP is bad so you only have to replace one at a time. Saving you money and the headache you just went through replacing it all just to find you still have a miss.
To check the PCV have the truck running and pulll the PCV and make sure it has very good suction. It should stick to your finger. If not, leave your finger on the PCV and listen to and check the hose for it. Odds are it will be the elbow that was a horrible faulty design that you can simply replace with 3/8" fuel line. If you want to be factory spec and replace that elbow it will cost you about $85 because you have to buy to whole assembly. The fuel line will cost you $4 or $5.
It could also be your IAC valve, another simple replacement, but its just not exactly easy to get to on the back of the manifold, but its not a total bitch either. Before replacing it, check the hosing going to it. The large one is known to become weak and collapse during operation. Thus saving you having to buy a new IAC valve.

I checked the suction on the pcv valve and it seems to be very good I will look into the iac next I replaced it about 80,000 miles ago but it was idling poorly that time. Thanks for the info.

You may also want to try running some Seafoam through the PVC first and some in the tank. Its possible you may have an injector that has a particle obstructing it. You can use either the Seafoam or Lucas fuel system treatment. If it doesn't clear the miss, it sure couldn't hurt to run it through on an ocassional basis.
