How much is this 65 f-100 worth?

This is a 65 F-100 twin I beam with a 351 automatic 2 wheel drive that starts and runs but needs some work. (the owner manual says 350?). I do not know the mileage. The body is in very good shape. MUCH better than my 89 F-150. My boss is selling it for $5000. What do yall think of it? I do not have much knowledge about these truck. Sorry for the lack of pics. http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMAG0120.jpg

Is it worth $5000.00 to you? These old trucks are worth what your willing to spend. It's hard for any of us to give you an accurate number without crawling all around the truck. Have you crawled under it and inspected it for rust? I usually take an awl with me when I check under truck. From the pictures I'd say maybe/yes but it's your money not mine. You really need to inspect it carefully regardless of who the owner is. The drivers side drip rail area looks like there might be a rust issue there. The front bumper looks like it might be buckled a little bit. Definately look for rust everywhere you can.

The engine code () is the 4th digit of the VIN

1965 F100 available engines: 240 1V I-6 (J); 300 1V I-6 (B); 352 2V (D).

No such thing as a 351(M) in any Ford truck until 1977, 1980 for the 351W.

Do NOT believe a single word a seller claims (even if it's your boss).

Private sellers can lie just as well as used/new car dealers, lawyers and politicians.

The wheels aren't original, neither is the radio/antenna, oil gauge, carpeting/seat upholstery, shift lever and the turn signal handle...what else has been changed?

Who did all the work, your boss...or did he buy it this way? The economy is terrible, so...the values of old cars/trucks have dropped like a stone.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

jowilker 06-05-2011 06:13 AM

If the hood is original it would have come with a FE 352. I believe that was the only V8 offered in 65. I was not able to define the clear gear shift selector that a factory C-O-M would have come with.

So it could have a 351 W, C or M in it today with ??? auto tranny.

I suspect he will have it for sale for a while at his asking. My O it's closer to a $3000.00 truck than 5. :-X0A6

Moved to the 61-66 F-series forum.

After all these years, who knows what engine is in it. Post pics of the engine if you can get them and we'll work on an ID ;)

Otherwise, first, count how many bolts hold the valve covers down, and whether or not the intake extends below the valve cover.

If it was a completely stock, original motor, everything else original, it MIGHT be worth $5K or even more, but I'm not really an expert on these trucks. If it's a swapped motor, a C4 or C6 auto, or some other mods were done, it would be worth $3K or so. To me.

But wait a little while for others to chime in and see what they rest of the board thinks :-X22

Wow thanks for all the replys! Me and my Dad are not going to get the truck.. Bad timing unfortunately... If no one buys it for a while and he marks it down to $3000 then maybe. I have more pics for yall though.

Be thankful you are not buying this truck, because it has been modified beyond belief.

Besides the changes noted in post #3 ....

It was originally a Standard Cab (Body 581) with a 240 I-6 (VIN engine code J), painted white (M) w/a 3 speed manual trans (A), a rear axle ratio of 3.70-1 w/o Limited Slip (09).

And, the tailgate is from a 1967/72 Styleside, the rear bumper is from a 1980's Styleside and trucks of this vintage were not available with backup lights. :-X15

6 valve cover bolt holes per side: 221/260/289/302/351W. Based on the dizzy, this engine is from a 1976 or earlier vehicle, prolly from a Passenger Car.

I can tell you the exact engine size if you post the ID numbers from the exhaust manifolds.

The motor really looks sad. An oily engine is always better than a rusty one, and, there is still a question about the extent of rust on the remainder of this truck.

Although prices vary from region to region, for a truck in Texas, a '65 like this should go for around $4000. based on the clean exterior, and he might get that.

However, when you look closer beyond the exterior, and I agree with all the comments that have been made, an informed and wise buyer would have to deduct at least another $1000., or maybe $1500.

If I could get it for $2500. I would consider it, but I also would not be surprised if he got $4000. from someone that didn't realize the potential problems with this one. If you don't believe me, just read some past posts of uninformed buyers on this very forum.

The best thing on the truck is the grill & side emblems! I would also question the bumper sticker on any decent paint job. (What's it covering).

Look close at the bumper, between license plate and bumper sticker upper part of bumper. Follow the reflection of the grille. Notice it is raised a little. As I said earlier it looks to have been in some kinda accident minor perhaps but the bumper is still tweaked. Probably hit in the area of the bumper sticker.

One other thing. Look at the windshield trim. Does it have a gap? You'll also see the trim has the butt connector (for lack of proper term) adn the gap is wider.

Wills1966F100 06-06-2011 10:36 PM

I just got a used chrome front bumper and it's tweaked a little very similar to this one. It also has a good credit card size piece of the chrome missing on the driver's side bottom corner. I'm going to use it because overall it's pretty good. Is it possible and affordable to fix the tweak or the chrome? :-huh

In post#6 the picture of the padded dash shows the speaker cover I am looking for. I can't find one so if anyone has one of these for sale or knows where I can get one please let me know, thanks! I will give your boss $2500 for the truck just to get the speaker cover lol. :)

ddavidv 06-07-2011 05:58 AM

That bumper is easily repaired and an excellent core for rechroming. Tri-City plating did mine, looked far worse than that and they came out very nice.

Yeah, that truck is a jigsaw puzzle of Slick parts for sure.

krewat 06-07-2011 07:29 AM

Wow. I'm going to guess that's a 351W - it's a small-block definitely, and the intake is wider than the 289/302's I've personally worked on, so ... ;)

Also, and I might be a bit paranoid here, but given the differences between the VIN and what the reality is, I'd be sure to check for other VIN numbers on the chassis if they exist for this year truck. You know, because the original title/reggie was "lost" ;)

Hunt89 06-07-2011 08:33 AM

Thanks again everyone for all the info! If it is for sale in a year and he just wants to get rid of it, I might buy it for real cheap. I think it would be a fun truck to have. My boss has not done anything to it. He bought it a few years ago and it just sat. He bought it and the window was "broke" until last Friday when I spent 3 HOURS cleaning the inside. All the white yall see was black. I could have done better but I was tired of scrubbing lol. The window just came off the rails and popped of the pin. It was a very simple fix.

NumberDummy 06-07-2011 12:14 PM

The door glass has a window roller (COAB-6423240-B) w/a clip that attaches to the pin of the window regulator, then the roller fits into the glass channel.

The clip snaps or the roller breaks (it's plastic), the window then falls down into the door.
