Ford Ranger with Lightning motor and 6 speed trans
Hey all i have been looking of a 2001 or newer lightning thats has been wrecked. I want to get all that i can use off of it to put it in my 96 ranger i have someone that says he can build it for me. My Question is if anyone knows where there might be a wrecked lightning (junk yard, someones back yard, ect.) thank you for your comments.

yeah and just wanted to know to if i just found a f150 with the 5.4 in it just use that with and buy a supercharger for it. i dont want to spend over 2000 for the part truck. I know that will probably be hard to find a lightning thats wrecked for that cheep or so i have heard. if anyone has any ideas i am open for suggestions.

You'll never find one that cheep!
Just the motor, used, gos for more then that. :) |
yeah i have found some 5.4 tritons for $1000 or less and i can get a supercharger for $800 that might be the way i am going to go
|
The supercharger, is that a complete conversion kit?
Don't forget, you will also need all theses parts! http://www.madenterprise.com/scparts.htm Not to mention the tranny and an L computer to operate it. :) |
yeah i have a guy at my work thats going to help with the build. he builds drag cars. the one thing that i really want to do is have it manual trans. i'm going to need to get new suspension and some wider back tires so it can hook up and not just spin. thank you for your comments

How cheap will this feller do the work for you? How cheap can you get these parts?

Ford SVO engineers did that a couple of years ago with a later model and they had trouble getting it faster than the 12's because of no traction. Just way too much torque. You want different, use the 5.4. Quick, go with a small block. Know a guy out in York, PA who was running in the 11's with a 347 and a KB. Completly streetable.
Dave Edit: Found the link to the SVO build - interesting read. http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/sto...olt/page1.html |
Thats cool... Reminds me of the Iroc trucks of the 90's where every one around here was building the chevy s-10's up with the F body parts and paxtons.. Then they came out with the cyclone but I still like the customs so much better... SVT- FTW

There are several who have put 460's in theirs. Several have put the complete Explorer 5.0L drivetrain in them, getting the power and the AWD. One guy did such a fantastic job he took truck of the year at two main Ranger sites.
