Rear sway bar install on a F350 with 20” wheels! (Pictures)

12 Attachment(s)
Backstory: I wanted the rear sway on my F350 SB truck, but because I ordered it with 20” wheels it was not available. So… after 3 hours of dealing with the parts counter dude at Ford., I ordered all the parts I needed to install the sway bar kit. Why 3 hours? Because the parts guy thought brackets had to be welded to the truck….not true! All this takes to complete is several parts and 30 minutes to install! So now I have the ONLY F350 Superduty with a factory rear sway bar with 20” wheels!! I want no one to install this rear sway bar until one month after reading this thread. I want at least 30 days to hold this title! Just kidding….enjoy the pictures and get to ordering!

To install the nut on the upper Link (Driver's side of truck), you need to lower spare tire to gain access to it.
Attachment 202845
Then reach over the top of the Urea tank and tighten nut. I used a 18mm ratchet wrench and a "Stubby" 18 mm wrench to get the nut tight. It takes some patience since you can't turn the wrench very much at a time...but its worth it!

Install complete....my rear end it SOOOOO tight it hurts!

Great job. I did the same thing to my 07 that had 20" wheels. Everything fit perfect.

Nice job Sarge! Looks like a great mod and I for one appreciate you posting the details. Anyone know why they don't allow it to be a factory option?

robroy90 05-28-2011 09:48 AM

I can't remember exactly, but I thought I read somewhere else it has something to do with (an often false assumption on Ford's part) the camper package and the rare person who would load a slide-in camper into the bed of the truck or something along those lines. I probably don't have that quite right, but I know when I ordered mine I could not order the rear sway with the other options I had selected.

Does anyone know if the same parts and install process applies to a 250? I would like to put one on mine as well now that someone else was kind enough to share the parts list.

Thanks for taking the time to do that, Sarge!

I hate to do this to ya, but I have to burst your bubble.}>}>

I have had my sway bar on since December, forgot to order the camper package which comes with the sway bar. And yes I do have the factory 20" too.

?

After install, can you guys tell a big difference? When do you think it helps the most?

Super08 05-28-2011 01:50 PM

Biggest changes I noticed was doing a quick lane change and cornering. The back end is more planted and less lean.

It should be all the same. If you want to be sure just get the serial number off a F-250 on a dealers lot with the sway bar. Then take it in to parts, they can punch in the serial number and order all the parts to do it.

Do you have some type of undercoating?

n1ncz 05-28-2011 07:12 PM

Sweet, thanks for posting the parts and the pictures - looks like another mod I want to do.

Great information and pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Why do they not come with if you get the 20" wheels? Do they assume that if you get the 20" wheels you will not be towing near the load you would if you got the 18"? Thanks

I do...part of the "Environmential package" offered at my dealership when I bought the truck. I don't know what brand it is, sorry. The did a nice job with coverage, even thou it took me 3 hours to clean up over spray!:-arrgh

I have no idea...you buy a $50-60K truck and it doesn't come with a rear sway bar...but a 1500 Dodge Ram truck does? Ford should at least give customers the option. Same thing with a large fuel tank, Ford knows 60 percent of the people who buy a diesel truck are going to pull things..they need a large fuel tank....OFFER one!! Sorry...I got sided tracked.:)
