Wiring dual fuel tanks to one gauge?
I'm having some troubles with my rear fuel tank (specifically the switch went bad), I bought a replacement but it's not working correctly.
So.... I'm planning to start from scratch and rewire the rear tank to the gauge. The in-cab tank works fine and reads on the gauge. But I'm unsure how to wire in a second tank to read on the same factory gauge. Has anybody done this before? Can you help me out with a basic run down of the wiring diagram that you used? What type of toggle (on-on, on off?) Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Go here for the FACTORY wiring diagrams 1973-1979 Ford Truck Wiring Diagrams & Schematics - FORDification.net this should give you an idea of how it was wired from the factory.

1973/74's have a manually operated fuel tank selector valve on the floor adjacent to the drivers side of the seat. All the switch does is change the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other. 1975/79's have an electric fuel tank selector valve & solenoid assy (mounts on the frame rail). The switch changes the tanks and the fuel gauges. 1975/79: D5TZ-9A050-A .. Fuel Tank Switch / Available from Ford / MSRP: $35.29 / FTE sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $21.35. 1975/79:D5TZ-9189-B .. Fuel Tank Selector Valve & Solenoid Assy / Obsolete / No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. |

Try Ford Parts - Genuine OEM Ford Auto Parts at FordPartsGiant . I've never heard of them before but I was doing a random search for the switch and came across this site.
According to the site they have the D3TZ-9A050-A switch, cost is $37.01 |

thanks
I did take it out and mess with it some. Once I hooked it back up it started working. Now all I have to do is find a sendng unit for the rear tank. It has a 25 gallon plastic tank. I can not find one anywhere but I was looking and wonder if a sending unit from a late sevetys bronco might be the same. Anyone have any ideas?
