F150 Leaking Oil
I have a Ford F150 which is leaking oil. It appears to leak more oil when the truck is moving rather than just sitting. The oil is also milky every now and again when i check it, not always just once in awhile. Wondering what would cause this?

mine leaks out of the air cleaner box, into the drivers side fender. see the replies that I'm getting on the discussion listed above yours.

milky oil can be caused by antifreeze in th oil, i.e. a bad head gasket. your oil leak is best determined by getting underneath the truck and seeing where it is coming from. as most older trucks have a decent amount of sludge around the engine, try cleaning the motor with some of that engine cleaner. run the truck and see whereabouts you leak is coming from.

Does anyone know if a bad PCV valve would cause moisture to get into the oil?

moisture can be from short trips. engine oil doesn't get hot enough to burn off the condensation that forms, especially in winter/cooler climates. when you say that it isn't always present, it sounds like the short trips may be the cause.

F150 Leaking Oil
I drive approximately 40 miles to work, two days ago i left work drove 3 miles and checked the oil and it was milky, checked again yesterday morning and it was milky. I then checked it last night before leaving work and it looked fine. I'm more less trying to determine if the head gasket is bad or the rings are shot. I am running a compression check on it this weekend but am trying to see what i might be looking at for repairs.

One other quick question does anyone know an approximate cost of a compression check and a coolant system pressure check?

awayto check for a bad head gasket is to start it with the rad. cap off and wait for the thermostat to open. if the head gasket is blown, it should pressurize the cooling system and eithermake lots of bubbles or throw antifreeze out of the filler neck depending on how bad it is.

I pulled the radiator cap off this weekend and did not have any problems with antifreeze bubbling or squirting through the filler neck. Could this mean i've got a cracked head or block?
