June 25th-26th GTG

I'm trying to get some dates together for an engine removal/re install GTG at my place. Getting a date that works for everyone is going to be tough, being that summer(busy time) is just around the corner. I'll work on some dates in the next couple of days and post them up and we'll go from there. Since fixing the major leak I had the other week I suppose it could be put off for a while, but really hoping it doesn't have to happen in December.

DieselCamper01 05-10-2011 08:04 AM

Just not on Dec 5th and we will be good Mike. Other than that let us know what dates and we will make sure that we pick one Dave can make it to.

fordpower88 05-10-2011 09:30 AM

Yeah Mike start posting some dates that work for you and we will see what works for everyone! We will get er done!

mndiesel 05-10-2011 10:10 PM

Just let me know, 2nd week in June we are at a dog show......

Excursion4X4 05-11-2011 08:31 AM

Throw the dates, and I'll see if I can get one to work!....Will be out of town 6-13 thru 6-21

Ford79 05-16-2011 09:31 PM

Looks like 25-26 of June will be the earliest that is open.

fordpower88 05-16-2011 09:44 PM

I will do some checking on those dates and get back to you Mike!

MisterCMK 05-16-2011 10:30 PM

That works for me as of now. Should I bring my tranny jack?

DieselCamper01 05-17-2011 09:31 AM

That weekend works for me Mike

msmenne17 05-31-2011 09:40 AM

Found yet one more thing that the "mechanic" screwed up on my truck. I am so sick of turning around and finding yet something else that is messed up because he wasn't paying attention.

I'm gonna take one more run at him this week (because of cost). If I don't get anywhere (as in he does it for free), I may show up needing some help with oil leaks and A/C (condenser and accumulator). Anyone have any A/C tools they can bring along? The condenser is leaking.

The condenser and accumulator don't look too hard to do, but I don't have a vacum pump to evacuate the system and pull any moisture out of it.

If I take the A/C problem somewhere else, it will end up costing me around $500 including markup, labor and freon.

MisterCMK 05-31-2011 08:13 PM

A/C is easy. I've got a gauge set and a vacuum pump I can bring along.

fordpower88 05-31-2011 08:42 PM

Mike I am going to try and make it that weekend. I won't know for sure till closer but am gonna do my best to make it!

Ford79 05-31-2011 08:54 PM

Ok, a little update on this.
The weekend of the 25th may not work. We may be in Milwaukee for a job late that week. I'll find out more in the next few days and let you all know what is going on.

msmenne17 06-01-2011 09:31 AM

Truck is at the "mechanic" shop this week. I'm out of town for three days. I told him I'm not spending any money. If he can take care of it, great. If not, I'll do something else. Unless he is going to take care of it, this will be the last he sees any of my vehicles.

I don't trust him, but taking it to another shop is going to be lots of $$$ and lots of @!#$!$@#%!#@$ (ok ... so that's already happening).

Let us know about the dates ... This is the closest one to me so far.

Ford79 06-12-2011 09:08 PM

OK, so I have made the decision to go ahead for the 25th. Going to try to get the engine out on the 25th and back in on the 26th.

DieselCamper01 06-12-2011 09:14 PM

Sounds good Mike. I will be there to help all I can.

msmenne17 06-12-2011 09:19 PM

Great to hear!!! PM me your address. I'm going to try like he** to make it if MisterCMK can bring his A/C stuff with. I work for the State of MN at MN State University in Mankato. Right now, I'm not even sure if I'll have a job beyond June 30, so CHEAP is the word these days.

A/C is the biggest priority right now. I can get the parts relatively cheap from RockAuto.com. I'm not so concerned with fixing the oil leaks as I am just figuring out where it's coming from. If I can get that far, I'm halfway there. I'd like to do a down pipe swap, but that will have to wait for another day with $$$ issues.

Sounds like a plan Mike! I am hoping to be there for at least one of the days. Probably won't know until that week though for sure.

Checking................

MisterCMK 06-14-2011 09:16 PM

I think that should work. Got electricity and water so I can bring my camper?

As a matter of fact, yes there is electric and water here.

fordpower88 06-14-2011 10:08 PM

Chris must have thought you lived out in the back sticks of Arkansas! LOL

MisterCMK 06-14-2011 10:09 PM

Well, he does live in Wisconsin after all. LOL!

fordpower88 06-14-2011 10:10 PM

That is true! LOL

dlibson 06-14-2011 10:12 PM

I'll do some checking around. Could always use the yard too, I'm sure there is room for a few campers here.

MisterCMK 06-14-2011 10:27 PM

Mine is a pop-up FWIW so I don't need much space.

HP junkie 06-15-2011 08:47 AM

Just spoon with Dave! lol

msmenne17 06-16-2011 09:26 AM

YEAH ... looks like my employer (MnSCU / MN State Mankato) will continue operating in the event of a MN Government shutdown!!

Looks like I'll likely be heading up to WI at the end of the month.

I need to replace the A/C Condenser and Accumulator/drier and figure out these f'ing oil leaks.

What info do I need for the A/C Condenser and Accumulator. I can get them from rockauto.com for inexpensive.

This being my first GTG ... I need some basic info.

Where and what time?
What tools do people have for A/C stuff? I don't have any other than basic sockets and wrenches.

Anything else I need to bring?

HP junkie 06-16-2011 09:30 AM

I won't be able to make it. We are running in a obstacle 5k race that Sat. in the cities. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for that!

Glad you can make a GTG and you still have a job! As far as tools go Mike has a pretty good assortment so he can chime in later on that. For the A/C part of you will need some good sized wrenches for the dryer and make sure you have flare wrenchs for the condenser if Mike doesn't. I would also get an orfice tube for your A/C as well. Basically that is a screen for all the crud that might be in the lines. Mike can PM you the address but sometimes the guys will meet north of the cities on I35 and convoy the rest of the way. Time in the past has been meet about 8:30 and then head to Mike's from there but the all the guys will chime in on that also.

I believe Wildwood in Taylors Falls is the closest. Then William O'Brein. There is also a city campground in New Richmond. Or, the yard here.

Hi Michael. Good to see you can make it. I'll send you a PM with the details. I have basic hand tools here, no A/C service stuff. Can't think of anything else you would need to bring at the moment.

Good luck on the 5K, I'd be lucky to complete a 5M(eter). I'm sure there will still be some wrenching going on on Sunday too.

Are you going to need anything like a tranny jack, engine stand, etc? I've got some air tools I can bring too.

DieselCamper01 06-17-2011 02:15 PM

Mike just has battery operated tools/toys. Bwahahaha!

Sorry about all the :-hijacked

dlibson 06-17-2011 04:31 PM

No spooning allowed! But anyone is welcome to stay in the camper...

I'll bring some tools. Michael, I have pretty much what you need for A/C.
