V-10 fuel mileage
Hello, I am purchasing a 1997 E350 motorhome with the V-10 Can anyone tell me of anything I should be looking for, (engine wise). The unit has 66000 km on it and seems to be in good shape. The last ford engine I owned is the 1899 460, so any information would be appreciated thanks. What MPG can I expect? what is the best handheld computer tuner and finally is it a good reliable motor? Thank-you

The V10 sets the bar pretty high for reliability. As for tuners, 5-Star seems to be the choice around here. Mileage? I get 14-15 mpg empty on the freeway with my 4WD crew cab F250, and about 8 mpg towing my toyhauler with the quads and camping gear. A friend of mine rented a V10 motorhome built on an E350 van chassis and got 11mpg freeway, bigger motorhomes might see 5-6 mpg, so it ain't no Prius, but it is stone reliable and has good power.

Thankyou. I really appreciate the reply. I owned a lot of fords years ago with the 351 and 460. They were very reliable but tough on fuel. Thanks again for the info

i bought a V10 Excursion in January and get 13-14 empty highway, 9-11 mixed and 7-8 towing my 16' box trailer. have not towed the 30' travel trailer yet but don't expect much better than 8 mpg highway towing that.
truck has 168k miles on it and still runs very strong. burns about 1/2 to 1 quart of oil between changes. seems to burn more oil when i tow and nearly none if i'm running empty. |

Do you use Mobil 1? I do and have noticed this loss, even when the engine hasn't run for prolonged periods. It doesn't leak but it seems to evaporate.
