rear fuel tank straps?
ok i need to replace my rear tank and went to remove the skid plates to find the tank held up by only the two piece plate. is this how it should be or should there be the straps and then the plates or was the plates an optional way of hanging the tank?
Skidplates, then the straps....The straps have a foam-ish like strip that keeps the strap from rubbing holes into the tanks...
So yea, the straps are the things that should be touching the tank, and the plates should bolt onto them, etc..... |
ok i just came across a thread they mention straps on the topside of the tank?
They're are 2 sets; Top and Bottom....Undo the 2 nuts and the lower straps will fall away, and so will the tank...Make sure not to let it just DROP, cos the plug on the top will tear up.....Otherwise, very simple...PB Blaster will be your friend....
The top straps are mounted to the crossmember IIRC....While you have the lower straps off, I'd go ahead paint them....To pretty them up, and to ward off rust....
ok so napa shows only one set are they the same
Not really sure on that one....The upper ones have a "Bolt" that the lower one slips over, and a nut holds that together, so no....I don't think they are the same....My 92' and 94' had the tank straps that the lower ones simply slide over the "Bolt" and the 4 nts fasten the whole tank up...
do you have the skid plates also?
No....Just the straps...lol
Your upper straps should be fine, they are not very hard to change if you do the bad one first
