Shock Choices, Figuring Length
 

So my sky RSK comes in tomorrow for my 95 F-350 4x4. Im looking to order front shocks for it and Im trying to figure out length. Right now, as it sits the shock is 19" long. With the RSK it should be 23" sitting still. The truck has an adda leaf but the shock perch sits atop the springs so it shouldn't have added too much length in the shock, maybe 1.5" over stock shocks. Also I dont want to spend $$$ for high dollar shocks, Im looking at nitro Pro Comp, and SkyJacker.

The guys at 4 wheel parts if I remember correctly told me a Pro Comp part number that at full length was 23" , this obviously seems too short. If I type in my truck on summitracings web site and add the 3" lift they give me a skyjacker N8041 and at full length they are 26" collapsed length is 15". These will work but I dont want to bottom out a shock...:-huh

Any recomendations?

So I think I figured out my own question with some math. So I figure at ride height at 19" you can take an extended height and collapsed height on a shock and get the average to find the middle (add the two divide by 2) and that will give me an estimated "center" length. So I figure if im at 19" now with the 3" kit I'll be at 22" center / ride height.


The recommended SkyJacker shock from summitracing was 26x15.5" which gives me a center height at 20" , well below 22.

The recommended shock from 4wheelparts was similar.

The shock that sky can sell with the 3" RSK kit is a bilstein 6248 or 6249. The 6249 measures in at 29.70x17.91 which gives a center height of 23.8 Which is much closer to my measurements...I am on the right track?
