ALL YOU GUYS W/PARTS TRUCKS
Trying to get my spare tire back underneath my truck.wondering if anybody can help me out? my prefered choice is the crank up style, but the crossbar style will work too.
also looking for all the bed hardware that the tailgate uses.Ford wants an arm and a leg for these parts and the local scrapyards don't have squat. Let me know or send me a PM. Thanks |
I don't know anything about the spare. As far the tailgate goes...I would keep an eye in the junk yrad....I think they are the same back to 1984 or something, some one will be able to confirm.

For the spare, just get a heafty piece of shallow C channel and some honkin huge 1" threaded rod or such. Crank-up deal you're on your own to scavange a salvage yard as our trucks did not come with that.
Or, you could do like my truck's previous owner did and get 6 or 8 of the HUGE zip ties and hold the tire up that way. :-X18 Yup, it worked, but thank god I had a knife sharp enough to cut all of them off when I got a flat! |
What bed hardware are you talking about?
|
One of the first things that was claimed on my parts truck was the spare tire hardware. Sorry.
but I do have the tailgate hardware. If you are talking about the hinge and latch pins. The cables are gone. But I do not have the tail gate or what was attached to it. Let me know if this is what you are needing. |
Just had a massive cleanup at my house it was ford truck part alley lol(: if the tailgate stuff will work from a 84 or 86 I may have something for you. I need to know what you need tho i always cut the spare tire stuff off my trucks!

spare idm
I'm also looking for a spare idm. idm-100 that i can do the 140 mod on or an idm-200 for a better upgrade to my existing idm-100. I've been bidding on e-bay with no luck yet. what is a used one worth? I also saw one on there that is rebuilt for $129.00, u think that is a good price?
|
I bought a 120v for that price reman. Probably same place. I use it as a spare, checked it and it worked. I modded my original to 140. If I were to do it again, I'd probably just have put a 120 in and kept the 100 as a spare. Never know though..

I might have what you need for the tailgate. Like I said though I do not have the tailgate.
I will look tonight to see if I have the rubber pieces you highlited. As far as the spare, trust me on this, you do not want part # 1474 or the wood looking piece or the bolt that goes thru it all. It will not come apart when you need it. It took a sawzall on mine to get it apart. Imagime doing that on the side of the road! Just get the two bolts and the bracket that holds the tire up. Put the tire on the bracket, lift it up and start the bolts to secure it. That is something that can be done on the side of the road and reinstalled back again too. Hope that helps. |

Remember that the tire is heavy, and its not easy to up it and less in that position (in the ground),so if you have a light jack with wheels it will help you a ton.
