V10 dual exhaust

Anyone tried duals on their V10? Did it help the performance/gas mileage? I was told that there wasn't a muffler that produced a good sound with the V10.

V10KLZZ71's did a dual set up. Go back in this forum and look for a title of "Pictures of my Dual exhaust." As far as the sound goes it's tough to get the V-8 sound out of the V-10 due to the firing order and valve overlap. Most guys have good results with Banks or Borla headers running thru a good high flowing muffler. Be very careful opening up the exhaust on the V-10, your torque curve will shift up the RPM band. I can say from experience don't cut out the factory Y pipe and delete the cat. Your torque curve will shift very high and you will get a lot of NOISE ! It's many many posts about the V-10 exhaust, just go back and read and read.

If you want to hear Banks header with a Gibson Cat Back find "JKBridges" gallery and click on his sound clip. Sounds Great!

BTW: Welcome lots of good folks here. Maybe Daryl ( V10KLZZ71s) will chime in, He loves talking about his duals.

V10 dual exhaust

hey gav what makes you think i like my duals?am i that enthuiastic when i talk about them?:D heh heh!no really, snappy my duals worked out good for me, sounds good, excellent power, and i didnt have any loss of low end power like gav did.; i actually gained low end torque, maybe because of the micro-tuner, but it feels more powerful at all rpms.look back on all my posts about it, i personally like it.The V10 will always sound like a big V6, but so what? A V12 Ferrari doesnt sound like a v8 either, not that there is any similarities between a ferrari v12 and a ford v10, but you see what i am getting at.:-X06

It's an even left-right-left-right, nothing weird about the firing order... cut that out! It's becoming an urban legend...

Hey Art K ,

Will you come explain that Left...Right....Left....Right thing to my truck ? With my latest exhaust mod it sounds like a V-6 on steroids :-X24 :-X24 :-X24

Yeah, there is that :)

I think it's more the valve overlap (or lack thereof) than the fact it's a 10 cylinder.

Doesn't make sense. One piston firing every 72 degrees only makes it sound like a V8 that's spinning a little faster. But, the overlap between exhaust pulses is less. That might do it.

To me it sounds and feels more like a diesel than any other gas motor I've driven.

GVA10: you sound sharp on exhaust. you said if you open exhaust / reduce restriction the torque will move up the RPM curve. dose this work in reverse if you were to say ran dual exhaust at 2.5 inch pipes to two cats and turbo mufflers.will the torque curve come down? i am running 2001 F53 with 5.38 gears which runs great if you keep the RPM above 2800. Would love to run at say 2500 RPM's at 55 MPH would think MPG would go up.

Speaking of NOISE...
I have Borla headers to a Flowmaster 40 series muffler...TOO loud, I'm going to take it off...:-banghead

my brother in law just installed a set of Banks headers on my 01 this past weekend and I had the Banks cat back muffler and tail pipe already. The cat back by itself made a nice throaty tone that you could notice over stock but not loud at all and no real difference in the cab. The headers changed the sound note of the engine and a bit louder than stock in the cab but I tell you the slight and I mean slight increase in noise vs stock vs the power gain is worth it. The motor gained low end torque and now it revs cleanly with ease vs making noise and not pulling any longer. these are pricey but if a guy is going to spend the money on header these Banks headers are a real peice of art.

Now on to some head mods, I think there is some power to be made (all over the power curve) out of these PI 2V heads without grinding the heak out of them and putting huge valves in.

Take a look at the a 70BB2 from Flowmaster. Will tone it down some. Depending on the exhaust setup the V10 can blow your ear drums out. I used to have mine exiting in front of the rear wheel.

I have true duals and it only help the mpg on average about 1 1/2 to 2 mpg.

stock manifold, 2.5 pipe, spiral flow muffler x2, 40 series delta flow flowmaster x2, 3.5 tips.

It has a nice rumble like a v-8 and isn't nasty loud.

oldirtytruck 02-10-2009 10:48 PM

I also made the mistake of just having flowmasters and nothing else.... that lasted a week.... cause that's how long it took to have a day off to take it back to the muffler shop.... Holy Crap it was loud and annoying }>
