EB Bronco two tone paint job..
 

Im starting on some minor rust repair and doing some painting on my 92 eddie bauer. As in my avitar its black with tan, well there are some small spots in the tan that id like to fix also. Im fairly new to painting, and im curious to the best way to lay the two tone eddie bauer paint job back down.

Say for an example, would a guy paint the entire bronco black then tape off what needs to be tan and spray the tan right over the black?? Because looking at where I have some rock chips, It doesnt look like theres any black under the tan from Ford...

If you are planning on painting the entire vehicle , you can do what ever is easiest for you . I would bet ford painted the tan first & masked it off for the black..If it were me , I would paint the tan first & cover it completely. Paint the black, after it is dry ,remove the masking ,sand the edge of the black lightly & clear the entire vehicle ...

I would do just as Action4478 suggested, as it's easier to cover tan with black. You'd be there all day trying to cover black with tan. And yes, it's easier to do the hole truck then sand down the tan to get a uniform finish. Good luck and don't forget to post some pics when you're done.

Ford painted the tan first, then the black. Its always best to paint dark over light paint instead of the opposite (it depends on application though). You dont have to paint the whole truck tan then black. Mask about 12-15 inches above the tan. Apply the tan to about 6-8 inches above where it is now. Then once it dries, sand to where you want the black to stop. Mask off using blue line tape and then masking and paper, shoot the black. Remove masking over the tan and apply clear coat (if using BC/CC) There should have been a factory pin stripe tape or moulding at the seam area.

Thanks for the advice. Ive been searching my A$$ off trying to find the pinstripe that separates the tan+black. Found a website that makes custom pinstripes, theres also a place in town here that does custom graphics Im going to try if I cant find one.

When you say spray the tan 6-8" above where it is now then sand to where the black will stop, is that to reduce an "edge" or "seam" between the two colors?? Im probobly completely wrong but wouldnt it be easier to tape off exactly where the tan stops? Im sure your right but im just curious to that method. Thanks very much for the advice so far

Yes that is to reduce the edge. Tape edge will sometimes show thru the tape, depending on the quality and thickness of it. I have even knocked that down a little before clearing over everything to help reduce tape edge.
