Progress on my crew cab cummins today.
I spent most of the today putting the front end back on my truck. It went together pretty good. The hard part will be the grill inserts with the intercooler. It can be done though.
I also did some wheel swapping today. I had some 36" HUMVEE tires that I bought several years ago that I decided to try out on some temporary aluminum wheels I had in the shop. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but I kind of like the combo now that I have them on. The weird part was the aluminum run-flat inserts that were inside the wheels. I had no idea they were run-flat wheels. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990280.jpg http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990196.jpg http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990461.jpg http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990348.jpg http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990359.jpg http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/a...1299990380.jpg |
I am jealous.
I was looking at a couple of crews, but they needed to much work for my taste right now. I got magic beans to trade? |
I have a spare cab now too. I'm going to scavenge a lot of parts off of it while mine is going back together. I wish I would have found this cab before I did all of the rust repair and paint on mine. It would have saved me a ton of money. The spare cab is original and rust free from Utah. It has AC too. I sold the bed.

Very nice! I really like the wheels. If only I could find a set...
I like the hummer tires, but a lot of people don't. They are bias and noisy, but I like their nostalgic look. I wish I could have found a crew like the one you parted. I like the older chrome (not racetrack) style, and crew parts are rare. |
Yeah I like the earlier XLT trim as well. It was in perfect shape and I will be putting all of it on the white truck. Crew cabs are very rare here in Oklahoma so there's no finding spare crew parts in salvages here. I'm anxious to get it all put back together to see the new look. If my commute weren't so far this would be my daily driver. I love these old fords. Especially the highboys.

I'd put that cab in the back corner of the garage and keep it for future use. Nice looking project!

BTW Ranger429, I'm a huge fan of your truck and the way you have it set up. It's perfect. I want one of those black push bars too!

VERY nice build, there is a 73 crew (2wd) for sale in Antlers OK, was talking to the guy about it not to long ago. I have a 78 and the roof rails are starting to rust through. Im gonna have to dig into that soon. Not looking forward to that but its gotta be done. Have any pics of that repair when you did it? I have seen van roofs used and various other strategies used. Locally there is a very clean 79 2wd Im considering picking up for parts and having an extra cab.

I don't have any close-ups of the drip rails. Here is a picture of the cab just after media blast and primer. In my opinion the van roofs look silly and out of place. My roof is still not perfect but I can live with it. The truck is tall enought that no one but me will even notice it.

You guys make me feel so lucky. My truck doesn't have ANY rust. Not even a little. However, someone worked over the passenger side with some trees. The worst- the rear door. The only that is hard to replace.:'(
