Headache Rack

Hello all,

I'm new here, so please forgive me if I'm posting to the wrong forum or if there is a similar thread...

I have a 2004 F-350 long bed, I want to get a headache rack to protect the cab and back window. I've seen some cool one's on the street, but havent seen much online that I like. What do you guys recommend?

I'd like to get one but,all the ones I like stick above the cab a little. My truck barely fits in the garage now[7' tall door],it has about 1/2-1" clearance with cab lights now.I really like the idea of protecting the window/cab/passengers from flying objects if in accident.

We picked up the first one like this for $150 bucks, made by someone somewhere around Lubbock. I'm planning on making a new one this summer sometime, based off this but a little different.

HEADACHE RACK | CAB RACK | CAB GUARD | FACTORY DIRECT AT HIGHWAY PRODUCTS. Here is a link to to Hiway products..If you scroll down the selection to the Super Duty truck rack (shown on a silver pickup) it is rounded and same ht. as the cab..These are very popular around here and built with quality.. And welcome to FTE.

For some functionality and a little less style these guys are great.

BACKRACK | Function and style for today's trucks

One other option is to see what local companies build them. It might be cheaper plus you would not have to pay for shipping.

On EDIT: We use these guys on all of our work trucks.

Wow!! I never looked at the price... I have built my own racks with tail & back up lights for the last 15 years..I prefer expanded metal or horizontal bars across the window. Done it both ways..Easier to clean the rear window with bars...

Thanks everyone, I'm thinking maybe I should have one built. I noticed that several of you have built your own, what should I expect to pay (ballpark). I'm thinking of something with round tubing on the sides and a straight piece across the top, with mesh/expanded metal.

Depends on materials. But I'd say about 100.00 . I have about 350.00 in mine but it has side rails and 4 rear,2 reverse oval led lights and enamel paint included.

Once I get my SD, I was thinking about going with this one:
ROUND TUBE HEADACHE RACK - BLACK - FORD SUPER DUTY F250/350 SUPER DUTY '99 - '11 | Round Tube

I saw it on a local F450 and really liked how it looked. Of course I didnt jump up in the bed and see how sturdy it felt. Looks to be about $210 online for this one.

Though the one in post #2 in this thread looks more functional.

Did you ever make your new Headache Rack for your truck?

Not for mine, but yes I made another for a friend, with full length tapered rail caps.

Unpainted:

He wants to put something in the center hole other than lourves, so it's chillen in his garage until we get something cnc cut to put in. I might be doing a full custom one for an F150 before too long, but he's leaning towards aluminum for weight and my TIG skills are lacking.

I run this brand on my 2007 F350, along with a tool box from the same. Good quality, although a bit pricey.

Pro-Tech Industries Cab Racks, Tractor Trailer Accessories, Pickup Truck Accessories, Toolboxes, etc.

Good luck!
