6.2L Tech Folder
 

Greetings all!

Art (Krewat) and I are seeking suggestions for a possible Tech Folder. Those of you familiar with the SD Forum know that we have a Tech Folder over there that contains a lot of information.

We're looking at the possibility of doing to same thing here as well. Since the 6.2L has been out for a while now, I'm sure many of you have come up with some tech tips we could include.

Things like power charts, service tips, mods, common problems and fixes, etc. are things we'd like to see. And, if you have any other suggestions, please post up and we'll consider them.

So take a minute when you get a chance and post your ideas here. Let us know what you'd like to see in a Tech Folder. We'll see what we can do.:-X22

Dyno chart is good...

Collection of exhaust clips

maintenance items; fluids types and amount (ie. rear end
90w -3 qts), filters with Ford part numbers, spark plugs with Ford part numbers.

Its seems everyone who has done an oil change so far has found the filter to be a bear to get off. I too found that the filter was on so tight, I couldn't believe it. Never had one that tight.

No match for my filter tool though. Craftsman Part Number 47064. Go to Google, and type in "Craftsman Adjustable Filter". Its the one that looks like a spider. Has like three adjustable legs if you will....

I guarantee this will be the last filter wrench you will ever buy. Once you use it, you will see. I use it on everything from my ATV's, to my wife's SUV, to my trucks. Great tool for the shop!!!

I don't know if anything is out there.. But - I have searched and cannot find - For the 6.7 - they got the "coffee Table Book" - Is there anything available like this for the 6.2??

Also - Does anyone have the ability to aquire all the TSB's that might relate to the 6.2/ 6R140 Trans, etc.? IT would be nice to be able to get them in PDF Format in a folder - As many times the it would be nice to take them in when we need to go to dealer for a fix.. With a TSB in hand it is easier to "explain" an issue & how to resolve..

BTW - Ford's customer service number is 1-800-392-3673 (this should probably be in whatever sticky is implemented).

Items that I used in the past.

1. High idle mod - Not sure if doable on 6.2.
2. Addition of Clearance Lights. Someone did a workup a few years ago with photos. That was very helpful.
3. Upfitter switches with photos.
4. As mentioned a list of current TSB.

Ditto on the TSBS.

Somewhat on the same line of the tsb. A sequential list of PCM updates and associated problems those PCM updates were intended for.

Latest Calibration Information

Instructions for determining the most recent module calibration released:

1.) Find the tear tag on the vehicle. It is a white tag located on the module or in an easily accessible place such as the doorjamb or engine cowl. The tag contains a four-digit letter/number combination (e.g.: VCS0), called the "catchword." Record this value.

2.) Open the file attached below, under "Access Latest Calibration Information."

3.) Using the arrows and dropdown menus in the file, find the Model, Year, Engine Size, and Engine Type.
NOTE: If the model year is not listed, use the previous model year.

4.) For this vehicle, find the catchword recorded from the tear tag.

5.) Check the "TSBPartNum" column. If there is a part number listed there for this catchword, go to step 7.

6.) If there is no part number listed in the "TSBPartNum" column, check the "NewPartNum" column. If no new part number is listed, this is the most recent calibration.

7.) If there is a new part number or a TSB part number listed, find it in the "PartNum" column.

8.) For this part number, check the "NewPartNum" column and determine whether or not a subsequent new part number is listed.

9.) Continue the process until no new part number can be found. The final "PartNum" found is the most recent calibration released for this vehicle.

NOTE: The above is a start. The actual data base given via their link is missing a few bits of data. The original instruction stated to: 1- Select "Quick Guides"; 2- Open "Latest Calibration Informaton" with a side note of scrolling down and opening the x-cell page. Utilizing that data in the x-cell you can find out if you have the latest "Flash". Well the document does not show an x-cell page but the link as given above. Not sure if this is because the engine is fairly new or what so I copied it from another site for the actual x-cell document. You have to down load and save it. ( http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...alibration.xls ). The problem with that document is that it only goes up to 2009 on the Super Duty. SO I am at a impass currently. Does anyone have better working knowledge of this matter?

High idle on the 6.2, didn't know it was needed?

It is handy for those of us in extreme climates and for PTO operations on work trucks.

how is the exhaust doing?...noisy or just right ...i have the same cold air intake...was thinking of doing flowmasters from behind the first muffler

Are the overhead cams on the 6.2 driven by chains or rubber belts?I don't want to have belts that need changed.

Instead of making a new folder, I've renamed and locked this one. Art and I will filter through the information and clean it up in here.

Please keep the ideas coming though. We need all we can get. Post up your suggestions or send one of us a PM and we'll look at all of them.
