2011 3.7 V-6
I have racked up 2000 miles on my new F-150 XLT regular cab 4X2 and all I can say is, this is the best truck I have ever owned. I currently own a 2003 F-250 Super duty 6.8 V-10 super cab. I sold my 5th wheel trailer and decided to get something with a little more fuel economy. Everyone is hot for the Eco-Boost but don't let its little brother fool you. It is an amazing engine with plenty of power and great fuel mileage. I'm averaging 21.9 MPG so far combined city and hwy. I also think the little V-6 will blow the V-10 away in a drag race. The only complaint that I have is the SYNC system voice recognition sucks. The Bitch can't understand anything I say.

Great first post sir. |
With gas prices heading upward as rapidly as they have been, the 3.7 looks better every day as a great choice for most people who don't carry or tow really big loads.
Ford was really wise to position themselves in the marketplace with a very good, modern V6. (I still think they would do well to build a slightly smaller truck, maybe Dakota sized, with the 3.5/3.7 engines, in addition to the F-150.) George |

Welcome to FTE. Enjoy that new ride, which it sounds like you already are.

Glad you are enjoying the V6! Had dinner with friends last night and my buddy just got the 2011 3.7 in a club cab-he loves it too.

The 3.7L was a wise choice for Ford to have made. Not only is the v-6 stang fast as hell but the truck really came alive considering it replaced the 4.6L 2V.
I love the custom package that's available with it too. :-X22 |
I almost bought the 3.7 myself . When you hit 3500 with that motor in 1 2 or 3rd gear it flat out gets with the program. I bought the 5.0 as I tow 95% of the time and I felt towing 2500lbs the added torque of the V8 that the MPG would be a wash and so far I have been real happy with the choice. My wife agrees as a rice burner tried to race her to to the ramp to cut her off when we swapped vehicles last week and got smoked by the 5.0.
What I do know is that a lighter motor and thus a lighter truck will give bigger grins when the road turns twisty. Ford has raised the bar in the car world across the board IMO. |
Pretty impressive! I am a fan of the Duratec V6 line up and it's good to see them in new applications.
And +1 on a need for midsized or smaller truck... 3.7 and an EB 2.0. |
Moved to correct forum.

2011 XLT 3.7L
I bought a 2011 xlt 3.7L back in january replaced a s-10. The best move I ever made the s-10 got about 18.3mpg I'm now averaging about 20.8 combined. If your worried about the 3.7 not having enough power, don't theres plenty you just have push the pedal alittle harder. My drive to work and back is around 64 miles and truck does find. I must admit I don't run it hard but I average 60 mph. One thing to note the tach goes to 7000 and theres now red line. Theres plenty of engine I haven't explored yet. Don't need to go that fast in a truck.

I have the 3.7l in my Mustang and it pulls hard when you get into the loud pedal. I've managed to run a 14 sec 1/4 @ 99mph and impress a lot of people at autocross. This motor is a sleeper because of the 5.0l, but the aftermarket is starting to get more products out for it.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your truck! |
