'97 F250 - Skeptical about fluid capacities

So my dad just picked up a 1997 F250, 120k on the clock, dinky cab, full-length bed, 7.5L petrol V8 and a nice shift kit that makes it really thud (perfect for heavy load hauling). He's out getting tires for it right now, and tomorrow we replace all the fluids, plugs and wires and clean it out.

So concerning fluids, he says he read somewhere that these engines only take 5 quarts of oil. I'm not buying it. My 4.0L Toyota I6 takes 8.2...\

Anyway I'm pretty excited, it's a big nasty truck with plenty of personality that we're going to work pretty hard.

Thanks!

Should be 6qts, I think, with a filter change.
Great looking truck.
And wait until you do a transmission fluid change, you will need around 17qts of fluid (if you have the E4OD.).

What Lazy k said 6 qts. All gas ford truck engines from 80-97 take 6 quarts w a filter

Thanks a ton. We've got the tranny fluid all lined up to go too. And I'll have to post a picture of the new BFG tires :D

Are you sure it has a shift kit in it, and it's not just in limp mode?

History shows a valve body swap.

Although now I'm curious as to what this "limp mode" is...
