Screws keep falling out of interior trim. Any tips or tricks to keeping them in?
Screws keep falling out from interior molding in the cab. Is there any trick to securing them so that they don't vibrate out.

I found some screws in my '86 Ranger would not tighten up, causing rattles. (I bought it new, so this was a factory feature). I pulled the trim pieces, and pounded the holes flat. Visualize a screw hole in a flat piece of sheet metal. Now pull that screw straight out, or over tighten it, and the hole "pulls", and now has a ridge around it, or a tear in the metal. By pounding them flat, the screw now had a tighter fit, and I was able to eliminate some of the rattles and buzzing.
PITA, but might be the answer. Of course, you may need additional repair or fiddling, optional at extra cost. |
