msd vs Street fire
i have been installing msd's Street fire products on my truck. my question is do any of you guys know the difference between msd and it's street fire product line? i have researched it some but only get the generic answer and not really any clear definition to the matter.

I've been wondering the same thing since i started looking for parts for my 460. this is what i found.
from a post on "therangerstation.com", "The difference between the two coils is just that one is in a different line of msd products. The street fire coil is in a cheaper line more street oriented of msd and the blaster coil is the higher and more race oriented one of the two. The street fire coil is probably closer to the factory resistance." and "the street fire is a stock replacement coil no emission tag required. the Blaster comes with a Carb executive order tage taht goes with your emission plate for california emission. baster puts out more power the the street fire. i don't believe the street fire can handle the msd boxes where the blaster can." |
and, from allfordmustangs.com, "the difference is the Street Fire is basically a stock replacement coil, with similiar output as the stock Ford coil. The Blaster has different internals, making for higher output voltage. Things like higher turns ratio, higher primary voltage and lower resistance. But the Blaster is too "hot" for stock coil wires, you'll need high performance wires to use the Blaster."

I use the blaster with MSD supercondutor wires ...

I use the blaster as well... with Racecar Engineering 9mm wires. Seems to runner a little better at the top end in my 460.

so i would just need to go to regular msd wires to upgrade to the blaster????? i like that idea

but I feel like if I am going to spend the time and money to replace something I might as well replace it with a little bit better parts. Its def not going to hurt. A hotter ignition and wires will go quite well with that blaster. I have the MSD 6A Offroad box. All these parts just insure better combustion. |
