Glass Pack Muffler

Hey everyone,

Im having an issue getting a straight answer, iv heard mixed opinions. But, are glass pack mufflers illegal in the state of maryland? or anywhere for that matter?

Thanks in advance

I don't think your truck is a rice burner, i wouldn't insult my truck with a glass pack. If it was me I would either put a 2 or 3 chamber flow master on it and some high flow cats, but hey thats just my 2 cents.

its kind of hard to pass up the twenty dollar price tag on the cherry bomb glass pack haha

i wouldnt mind going with a chamber style muffler, but if im gonna spend some money i want to make sure its gonna have an aggressive tone. im not planning on changing any other components of the exhaust.

if you want a more aggressive tone I would go with a 2 chamber flow master or something close to it. I would change out to a high flow cat though, its like putting a wheel on a rim without balancing it first.

yes i hear ya, and i have to agree. high flow cats would be down the rode though. im replacing the muffler because it has a rust whole.. i like the old saying if it aint broke dont fix it.

but that you for your input iv found a flowmaster here at the local parts start, ill be having the muffler shop doing a little welding for me. thanks again

As for glass packs being illegal that is not the case. I don't know about where you live but if it is like around here they go by noise levels. I've always liked glass packs on old push rod engines but I have mixed feelings on the newer mod fords. I think if you run a long glasspack it'll sound pretty good. The longer the muffler the less raspy and deeper it will sound. hope that helps. youtube has some good clips to give you an idea as to what it will sound like. I say go for it!

Why wast your money on glasspacks? Just run a straight pipe. :)

I believe its a state law that I have to have a muffler on any vehicle if its not historic.. that's why I wanted the glass pack

In MD they probably look under the truck during your inspection. You would have to look up the law to be sure.

But in DE they never even look unless it's to loud..lol
Last time I went through, the guy that plugs into the computer in the truck to check all your monitors gos( you can make a truck sound like this and still pass this test???) I said sure, did last time I was here...lol
He couldn't believe it passed. :)

I would be down with a straight pipe.. but Im not down for tickets and all the other bs.

Another question.. can resonators be removed without getting hasselled at the inspection station?

It wont be that loud if you keep all your cats in place.
