1962 Econoline truck HELP

I am going to look at a 1962 Econoline pickup. I have never owned one but I love the look of it. I do not know anything about them. I would like to know what I should look for (problem spots) when I go to look at the truck. Thank you.

watch out for brake concerns. single piston master. Willwood makes a conversion but its a bit costly.
steering box is also a rare bird. most every thing else is either home made or can be found at macs antique car parts.

Thanks for the info. I will check all that out when I go look at the truck.
Is there any body or frame problems I need to check?

Tailgates are usually rusted out or banged up and expensive to replace.

econo truck check

Hey cad1992

check the typical splash and spray areas, floor boards etc... remember it's a
unibody so check the frame box channels on the inside edge, get under with a flash light and a scratch all to poke at the sheet metal. also the trucks should have a cross beam in the rear (about 165 lb) to add balance and traction.
also check the inside edges of the body (vertical panel from the floor pan to the
spot welded rockers. this can be repaired with flat sheet metal the rockers are
available from macs in Lockport NY. i haven't saved up for mine yet so i can't
comment but the few things I have gotten were good quality and prompt.

Good luck

Back corners rust, especially around the box that covers the gas filler neck.
The front floor seam usually rusts out and the front floor pans.
Watch for frame damage. I found a few that the vehicle has hit a ditch and they buckle over the wheel wells. You can see this if the doors line up or rub against the back of the door post and top of the wheelwell. I have a nice parts van. It would of been worth restoring for lack of rust. But the guy hit the ditch and bent the frame.
A friend was going to buy a van. Good thing I went with him. I saw the that it was bent right away. Due to this he got the van for way below asking price and uses it for parts for his other two vans.

I will keep that in mind when look at the truck again. I looked at it once and it has small rust bubbles all over the body around the seams and other places which worried me but I might go look at it again. Thanks for the info again this forum is a big help.
