2011 Build / Project: Olblue

New to FTE...I have enjoyed the forum so decided to become a member. This is my truck. I have owned the truck since 1997. It has been in my family since 1979 when my grandfather bought it new. It was on our farm until I acquired it. The body is straight and is stock. I am planning on dropping a 460 in it. Here are a couple of pics of Olblue...

Welcome to FTE! Looks like a pretty solid project! I love the custom front bumper, makes it look really tough! By any chance would you wanna sell that steering wheel :D?! lol

Olblue_79 02-21-2011 12:34 PM

No, It took me a while to find that wheel. I removed the factory one because it was horn assembly was cracked.

Thanks for asking though...

Welcome to FTE. Looks like a good project you got there. What are your plans for it?

I am going to build a 460. I have created a spread sheet of all the parts I will need. I know I am missing a few small details but as it comes along, I will get it together... As far as the truck, I am going to fix the steering issue I am having by replacing the box. I thought about hydraulic steering but I won't be on the rocks anytime soon, so it will be something later on down the road.

Here is the list I have created so far. I have already started purchasing some of the things to get it back on the road.

Driver's Door
Gas Tank - 38 gal
Tires - 38's
Rims - 16"
6 inch Suspension Lift
Caster Correction Brackets
Bed Floor Assembly
Battery
Complete Bushing Kit
Power Steering Box
Front Bed Assembly
Drop Pitman Arm

Looks like an awesome project. Man, it must be nice to have a big shop AND a forklift! That would make things a little easier to get the job done!:-X22 I'm envious.

It is. Thanks to my dad for letting me use his shop and tools. I live in a subdivision and I don't think the neighbors would quite understand... The forklift has been a life saver.

Nice Texas style bumpers, as far as the 460 swap you getting a kit from L&L or doing it a piece at a time?

Reason being is you will want to get the rear oil pan swap kit (pan, pick up tube, tube stud kit) and make sure you get truck exhaust manifolds cause car ones will not fit the R/h side.

Ck out my garage, my "ol blue" looks a lot like yours inside and out.

I sure will. Thanks. I have changed my plans on the motor. I am going to keep the original block and go with 351C Heads. Larger intake and I can get great power with low end torque. This motor is strong and has been a great motor for the past 35 years. No leaks, doesn't burn oil and still has great compression. I am going to upgrade the cam and increase the oil capacity. What are you running?

Olblue_79 05-05-2013 01:44 PM

I added some pictures to my garage. Prior to tear down. My dad helped me move it from storage to his barn.
