BFace805: 54 Build Thread
 

I will keep this updated as I go along.

Picked up the 54 after it sat in a field for 40 years. 3X,XXX miles. It was a farm truck.

Plans: 302, AOD, Mustang II suspension, 4 link rear, relocate the gas tank, power windows, white paint, factory wheels powder coated red, white walls, red bench seat. The body will remain the same with the exception of shortened bumpers and possibly a 56 grill.

I put them in my introduction thread but figured a dedicated build thread was in order. Front end and engine come out soon.

Sounds like a good plan. But why are you considering yanking it's fangs???:-X04 That's what makes the 54 so cool.:-D

Mine had a 56 grille when I bought it. I found a really nice 54 grille to give it back it's fangs.:-X14

I keep going back and forth between liking it and not. I was going to go paint the truck black and would have kept the grill for sure. I don't know how Im going to like it when it's white.

After thinking, I'll probably keep it so it's original. Plus, saves me money!

I use to not like the 54 grille. But now they are my favorite.

Keep us posted on the spare parts you have. I'm a pure 54 stocker and love the OE parts!

Looking good! Keep the pics coming. I go pick up mine this week after a new IFS, 4 Link, New tank goes next week and then the Big Block. Outside of the engine your build sounds like mine. Feels good after the suspension is done because you know everything else is down hill.

I think our trucks look best with a grille that is not body color. The original color for the grille was Sungate Ivory, a cream color. From original dealer brochures Ford said they chose this color because it went with any body color. So whether it is the Sungate Ivory or a off white or in between I think the '54 grille looks good as well as the 53 and 55 and 56. The 55 and 56 grilles were originally Snowshoe white.

Will do. I don't know how much, if any, there will be other than the worn suspension and everything associated with the manual transmission. I plan on keeping the interior and exterior primarily stock.

I seem to collect 239ci Y-blocks as an unintentional hobby, so I'm mostly interested in the engine parts. I have a home for the original rims as well if they are 16 inch - I lost mine as a teenager many years ago in a trade for a set of baby moons.

Sorry, the engine is spoken for. A good friend of mine is taking it off my hands in exchange for a fresh 302 and AOD.

Too bad you guys are not near me. I'm trying to sell my 272 with the 3 speed and steering column.
