F150 Exhaust
Hey guys, I know a thread like this has been done to death but I have to ask. What exhaust (muffler specificly) do you guys run on the 4.6 3v F150 ? I've read a lot of posts on the 5.4 and exhaust, not to many on the 4.6 3v. I'm looking at either Magnaflow or Flowmaster. I like the sound of the Flowmaster (Super 44) but the interior drone is crazy loud with that muffler. What do you guys run and recommend ?
Oh, it's a 2010 F150 4.6 3v. Thanks again for all your help. |
I have a 4.6 3v and swapped out the oem muffler for a 22'' magnaflow, threw a nice stainless tip on it and sounds beautiful. Clean, rich sound with zero drone.

I have the 4.6 3v too. I put a MAC performance stainless steel Flowpath muff on mine and dumped it just before the axle. I think it sound fantastic. It's not too obnoxious but you can hear it. It drones a little in cab, but I like it that way.

Magnaflow is the best!!

Thanks guys, also what's the in/out size of the stock muffler ? Just taking a quick peek, it looks to me like 2.50 in and 2.25 out..is this right ?

I believe it's 3''. Unless they made the pipes smaller from the 04-08 trucks. |
The stock pipe size is 2 3/4''. I bought a muffler with 3'' in/ out and had the shop weld a reducer coupler on.

Thanks guys

I am not a fan of swapping out the already great flowing and (in my opinion) throaty sounding stock exhaust, but if you MUST get more noise, then Magnaflow is a good bet. I'd also look at Dynomax (ultaflow- not the super turbo) and MBRP.

I have the 2v 4.6 with a flowmaster 50 series. I love the sound with the windows down on short trips but with them up and on long trips its a little annoying. Oh yeah. Single in duel out on both sides of my hitch receiver.

The stock exhaust, while a nice flow through design does leave a lot to be desired in the sound department for some people. Swapping out the muffler is just an affordable way of doing it. I've been down the complete exhaust replacement road. You're really not going to gain performance from an exhaust kit.

I kinda like the sound of the Magnaflow over the Flowmaster.

I had flowmaster on my 2008 and it drove me nuts, and rotted out fast. The maggie sounds great and getting better as it breaks in. The best part is with the stainless steel, it went through an Adirondack winter and still looks like it came out of the box. The welds aren't even rusting.
