05 ford 6.0 oil bypass kit
 

well i have a 05 ford f250 superduty 6.0 powerstroke with 90K on it an i was wanting some opinions on what you think of switching to AMSOIL heavy duty 15w40 with a oil bypass filter kit . i was told it may help with some of the 6.0 problems an it really help with the injectors ?

No oil analysis I've ever read showed Amsoil outperforming Shell Rotella T6, Mobil 1 for Turbo Diesel Trucks, Mobil Delvac 1 or any other synthetic diesel oil.

Using a 5w-40 like the oils mentioned above ( I think Valvoline makes one, too) could be kinder to your injectors especially in winter, making start up easier.

Regardless what Amsoil zombies may say, I've seen a 15w-40 Amsoil filled 6.0 start up everyday for an entire Wyoming winter next to my 6.0 with a 5w-40 in it and there is no comparison .

Ford has back spec'd 5w-40 for use in all Powerstrokes, so there is no reason not to use it.

If you're thinking of running extended oil change intervals with Amsoil in your 6.0, forget it. And, if you think Amsoil resists shear in a 6.0, it doesn't.

I'd run Rotella T6 (Walmart $20/gallon) not because it's synthetic, but because it's a 5w-40. I will say the Amsoil anodized aluminum oil filter cap replacement piece looks nice.

I believe the general thinking is that the additional filtration of the by-pass filter doesn't let you go longer between oil changes. The sheer of the oil requires the oil to be changed, so beyond the additional filtration, the bypass filter doesn't help prolong your oil life in the 6.0.

It's the sheer shearing of the oil that can do you in!:-X14

Many 6.0 owners who use dino oil (15W-40) and have their oil analyzed after 5,000 miles show the viscosity still 40 weight. This even applies to some owners using synthetic, I myself use synthetic 5W-40 but my report will come back as being reduced to 30W, nothing to be alarmed about.

i have heard a lot of people talking about synthetics the past couple years an i thought the synthetics where really helping to reduce wear in the motors ? i also thought well if i put on a bypass filter to keep oil cleaner it should help with wear ? i am looking to do 10,000 mile or less oil changes . i am just trying to get the life out out of this 6.0 that i am getting out of my 95 7.3 that has 400,000 on it an is still going no major motor work ever. the amsoil i ordered is the SAE 15w40 heavy duty diesel and marine motor oil

I am in the process of finding out. I will post my uoas online. I went a much cheaper route of building my own kit. It was between $120-$130 using NUC oil filter mount and oil filter cap.

Blackstone tested 15w-40 ford oil that I sent in. I went 5,200 miles on it. They said I can try 7,500 next time.

I've got the bypass kit on my truck, but plan on sticking to 7,500mi for the change interval. I have Amsoil in there right now, and had it tested by Blackstone at around 5k miles. They said I could easily get another 2,500 out of it, so that's my plan. Not sure if I will stick with Amsoil or try a different brand when I change. I may go to a cheaper synthetic if it does as good a job.

I've never seen an oil analysis that didn't show shearing to 30w on a 6.0. Could you scan and post yours?

What does my oil analysis have to do with oil not shearing? Re-read my last post. I think it was Bismic who said his oil was still rated at 40W after 5,000 miles. and thats synthetic.

Man I hate to say this I change my oil every 3k or as close to that as my time permits. yall have fun with the 10k program.
I know what the inside of my engine looks like.

Steve, my last report (fall) was somewhat similar with the "try 7,500" the iron was 8 with low soot and no fuel, moisture or antifreeze was found. "nice wearing Ford"
