1996 Changing Heater Core
How hard is it to change a heater core in a 1996 F-150. Is there any place I could see some pictures?

Hi
I'd try the search function but do it specific for your year. You'll get tons of answers all at once since it's not really a daily problem I see on here. I spent an hour standing on my head removing bolts and mine never did come out. Yes, best to get some good info for sure. |

Thanks cj06,
I found both of those very useful. |
It's actually pretty simple, only took me an hours worth of time once I got the tools and the new heater core.
I know right now the hardest part will be getting the hoses off of the old heater core, what I did was make a slice up the hose and wedged a flat head screw driver around the sides to free it, a little tiny dab of WD-40 in the slice wouldn't hurt either. |
Also make sure the gasket is good. I replaced mine last summer and come winter it was blowing cool air.It was blowing hot air out of the cover for the heater core. I took it apart last week and put sticky foam that my friend did not need to use when he did his 96 250. His heater core came with the foam from his part store, but mine from Oreilly's did not come with it. I read on here you can get the foam from a hardware store.
