56 ford wide fenders

I want to put bigger back tires on my 56 ford f100 but i dont want to tub the box. I see that there are wider glass fenders from mid fifties available. Has anyone used these? Reason i ask is do i need to change the running boards to meet the 3 inch wider fenders? Just curious as to how they fit up. Im thinking ill order the smooth running boards anyway, do i need to metal work those wider?

thanks
mike

There are a few on here that have the 3" wider fiberglass rear fenders on thier trucks, the stock running boards bolts to them without any modifications. There are others that have widened the steel fenders as well, try the search if you can get it to work for you, not likely as I noticed you don't have enough posts yet. You can also check out some of the magazine sites like Classic Trucks or Custom Classic Trucks, they both have plenty of articles related to this subject. The boys here that have done it should show up shortly and offer advice. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

yes, my truck has the fiberglass wider fenders, made by BeBops glassworks in Tennessee, and sold by Midfifty.

volare in front and lincoln/mustang 8.8 rear, with custom rear lower trailing arm triangulated. (pic in my gallery during build) this is airbagged in the back, and set down for the pics. 18in wheels front, 20 rear.

decent.. but due to the paint she is a trailer queen.. only 200 miles on the odometer. so I don't have a lot of time in the cab..
