clunking noise from transfer case???

hey, my truck has started to make a clunk when i let off the throttle. i dont even have to push it that hard to make it do it. checked u joints and it has a dana 80 rear end so i dont think it would be that but who knows. if i go between reverse and drive it will do it too. any one know what it could be? 6.0 cc lb dually auto 4x4 239 000 miles

Try greasing the drive shaft slip joint

Slip joint regreasing

i just greased everything icluding the slip joint at the last oil change. think it could already need it? maybe its the grease im using? i use some stuff called mystery grease.

Have you checked the drive shaft center support bearing?

036.0stroke 02-02-2011 07:15 PM

yea i can force it to move a little but i think its just the rubber flexing

got underneath it and watched when it was put between f/r and the drive shaft moves like almost half a turn before it clunks each way. does this t case have a chain in it?

i really need to get this figured out before it leaves me somewhere. does anyone know what else could be causing this? thanks

The T-case does use a chain but it should only affect it when in 4 wheel drive since the chain drives the front output shaft for your front driveshaft.

Any vibration while driving?

Have you tried to wiggle your rear pinion yoke to see if it has play?

What about the rear output shaft on your t-case?
