Water in Fuel Pump Drain

A question,
How many times do you have to drain the water out of the fuel pump filter housing under the truck? (Or how many times you do it)

I am located in CT, I usually drain it every other month or when the light comes on and when I change filters out.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It seems like, That dang light is always lit at least twice month.

(I fill up at different locations, even know the fuel comes from same tank field in CT)

Thanks

How much water comes out when you drain it?

Once a month I believe is Ford's recommendation.

The reason I ask about amount of water, if no water, then the sensors maybe dirty.

do you drain it into a glass container to see if there really is water in the fuel, like the other guy said it might be a dirty sensor.

I drain mine once a month or so. Sometimes there is no water at all, sometimes there's an ounce or so along with some brown trash. I think it mostly depends on the quality of fuel I get, but also on temperature and humidity changes that occur during that month. If warm humid air gets into the tank and then the temperature drops, condensation forms.

I drain mine every 1.5 years or when I change filters, the only time I ever got a WIF was when the sensor was corroded which I replaced. One of the things you can do to avoid water build up is keep the tank filled in winter. The more the tank wall is down, the more area for condensation to form. Your fuel is constantly returning from the warm engine to the tank, now you shut the truck off with a 3/4 empty tank in the cold winter and you get condensation. In the winter my truck is parked with never more then 10 gal. down and never once got water. Getting water from a service station is a different story.

I'm in CT too- I have had more problems with the WIF light than I can stand. Mine comes on probably once a week, and when I drain the filter, water usually comes out. I have an F550 dump, and I think water gets in through the fuel fill cap. I have a new on on order......
