My Ex rolls in park?

I went to park my 2000 excursion today and I was just about to get out when I noticed I was still rolling as if I was in neutral. I quickly shifted back into park and it finally stopped, but it seems to keep happening. If I dont really push up all the way in park, it wont catch the parking pawl. Is there an adjustment I can make to fix this? I dont want my mother who usually drives it to have any trouble with it and it has happened to her already. I appreciate the help.

What's probably happened is a small bolt fell out under your steering column. Check on the floorboard before you kick it out. Lay on your back look straght up at the steering column. there's a bracket that looks simular to a pipe clamp. It has two bolts about 1.5" apart. Check them for tightness.

I was thinking the shifter cable may have stretched.

This is a common problem

Probably not. This happened on mine and is a fairly commn issue. There are more threads about it, but I bet it is the two bolts I referred to in my first post.
