My Golden Girl
Well she's finally up and running after a mechanical restoration. I love originallity and this is as good as it gets. This is a very nice example of an original AZ truck. The bed has no dents inside and I'm told the truck spent most of its life with a camper in the bed. There is no rust, bondo or damage anywhere. I have the original purchase contract and a little history as well as factory manuals. All the glass is factory as well as the paint. The 352 and C-O-M tranny have been rebuilt and the A/C is factory with a newer style compressor added. The radiator is a repop using plastic tanks and aluminum core from Performance Radiator. Everything works on the truck except the windshield washers. Pump is broke. The brakes are FOMOCO units still with rebuilt internals. Rear diff is a Dana 44 with 3.55's and posi. The dash pad is factory original with no cracks and the factory rubber flooring still looks good. I did add an Edelbrock carb and cast Ford 4v intake as well as electric fans for cooling. You'll also notice that I switched to a newer air cleaner housing. I gave up the factory logs for headers. The truck is just an amazing time capsule in my eyes. Enjoy the pics. :)

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but...
This '66 F100 does not have factory A/C, nor is it Ford A/C...it's aftermarket. It was either dealer installed or more likely, the dealer sent it out to have it installed. 1966's used the same A/C chrome/dark charcoal bezel as Mustangs, have four round registers with the two chrome knobbed A/C switches in the middle, has the Ford crest above. In 1965, I wanted to add A/C to my newly purchased F100. The Ford unit was too expensive, so I went aftermarket. The dealer sent the truck out to Air Cold Sales, which had shops in CA, AZ & NV The A/C's bezel was exactly the same as this truck has. Since the A/C bezel is exactly the same, Air Cold Sales prolly installed this A/C, too. |
Very nice truck! Gold is definitely a cool color on these old rigs, and always nice to get one with a great body.

The tailgate may have been repainted. The letters should be a contrasting color - probably white.

You are correct. I misworded my original post. The a/c unit was installed by the dealer according to the purchase contract. What's weird is the Ford glass has a slight tint to it as if the truck was ordered for a/c usage. Is this common?
The a/c unit is a Climatic Air Imperial. :) Tinted glass (windshield only, or all the way around) was an option on all 1961/66 F100/1100's. Very few (prolly less than 2%) of these trucks had A/C, either factory, dealer installed or aftermarket. My truck didn't have tinted glass originally (I added it in 1983, including a Sun Band w/s). Tinted glass would have been a necessary option in AZ .. where summer temps average 90 degrees...at midnight! My sister lives in Scottsdale, bought a new Crown Vic Country Squire in 1983...it had cloth seats. This was the first Ford Station Wagon I had ever seen without vinyl seats. |

No doubt about it - that appears to be a fine example of rust-free old iron! I'm amazed that the black dash has no cracks in it after living it's life in AZ! :-drink Does the seat cover have the embossed Ford in the center of the upright cushion? If not, then I'd question whether or not the seat covering may have been recovered. Before someone asks, "So what option included radio speakers in the door panels or the gages under the dash?" I'll also state for the record that they are not original issue either. It appears that the shifter collar on the steering column has been changed out at sometime, as it's a different color than the rest of the steering column. That isn't a big surprise as I've seen many of those collars broken to the point of allowing the shifting handle to fall completely off! Not a good thing to happen - especially while trying to shift & passing through a busy intersection at night! Yep, it happened to me years ago - scrunched over, groping with one hand around on the floor trying to located the shift handle that had fallen out! :-hair BarnieTrk :-X0A6 |

It sounds as if you have fond memories of your F100. I find these trucks so apealing and I'm biased because my dad had a '66 F250 Camper Special. Do you still have the truck? I will have to check the glass to see if all are tinted. If I look through the rear window from the bed looking forward; the view is tinted. Could be just windshield?
