Poor gas mileage?

New to the board and want to say hello and thanks to anyone ahead of time who answers my newb question.*

I recently bought a 01 Harley truck with 48000 on it. Only upgrade that I know of is a K&N intake. Only mechanical issue that I'm having is what seems to be a converter shutter (I'm thinking). Anyway, since getting the truck I been wondering if it's just the truck or something else that's giving me poor gas mileage (12.5 with half city, half highway driving). I haven't been putting my foot in it or driving it like I stole it, just nice and conservative like.*

So, is 12.5 mpg normal, or should I be looking at something more like 14-15?*

If your torque converter is acting up it will cause a loss of MPG.
BTW Welcome to FTE.

Thank you for the welcome and the feedback shorebird. It sounds like I might have some work to do.

Not sure, only had it a month now. I was planning on a complete tune-up this spring. I truck is running like a champ other than the shudder going into overdrive. And that shudder only happens truck is warn and every once and awhile. I did add some LubeGard (red bottle) which was recommended by one of the trans "specialists" at the plant, but that didn't help. Another said that the convertor would have to be replaced. Yippy!

I was also thinking that maybe the owner before might have added a chip or done some type of performance programmer (don't know if those have to be permanently attached) and that might be part of the problem.
