7.3 shut down on me

As I was driving home yesterday my truck suddenly died on me. I pulled off the highway and thought I threw the belt. As I walked to the front on the passenger side I saw a lot of oil on the ground. The truck is stock except for K&N air filter. The oil was changed last week at the dealer. I didn't hear any strange noises or feel anything unusal. It just shut down and leaks oil now. It will turn over fine and no wierd noises. Will not start. The oil filter and drain plug are both tight and still there. I can't tell where the oil came from. The dipstick is showing a little less than half. I dont see any shavings in the oil or smell fuel. It has 240,000 miles with regular oil changes every 5,000 and fuel filter every 10,000. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

This is the General Diesel page, you would get better results by posting the problem a few lines down from this page on the one that is for your engine.
Good luck.

what year 7.3? assuming its a powerstroke- there are several things in the engine vally that can leak, and they all drain down the passenger side. low oil or pressure will cause these engines to shut down because the injectors cant fire without oil. (kind of a built in saftey). also the dip stick seal at the pan has been known to leak, if thats the case read up on it befor you attempt this job because you can drop part of it in the pan.

It sounds like a HPOP fitting or line blew out on you. A PSD will shut down on low oil.

Apparently it was a high pressure oil line that runs into the head. I replaced both lines, reprimed the fuel and now it runs. Don't know if I'll ever get all the oil out of the vally though.

The oil will drain through the valley, there is a hole in the back. You can also use simple green and wipe it down as well.
