How do I remove shift lever on '97 Ranger 4 cyl

Hi all - I am replacing the clutch on my 1997 Ranger and I cannot get the shift lever off of the transmission. My manual (it's garbage) references a picture that doesn't exist. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you.

I had an F150 that was equipped with the M50D trans and it had a taper bolt that attached it. You took the nut off, then threaded it onto the opposite end, and tightened it. It drew the tapered bolt out. I thought it was a strange set up myself. Yours may have the same.

Thanks a lot Cougar! I tapped it with a hammer, brought the nut around to the other side and threaded the stud out enough to pull her out.

If it's not to late, consider going with a Hurst shifter. It has 40 % less throw. Make sure that the shifter has a vent hole at the base of the shifter.

Thanks for the input, but this thing is so plain and stripped down that there isn't any sense in mod-ing it up. It is just my spare vehicle when the fun rig isn't running right. I'd like to replace it possibly with a 3/ ton in the next couple of years.
