65 hood problems?

Hi' I'm new to the membership but have had a couple old trucks, and I've noticed that 90 percent of the 65/66 pickups have a problem where the hood seems to not fit snug with the cowl? including my nice'' 65 CC, any help or thoughts would be of Great help!! Thanks for any input...

Is the hood setting up higher than the cowl?

huckdeuceman 12-28-2010 11:17 AM

yes, it sets up about 1/3 inch?.and the hood hinges seem to be adjusted as far down as possible?

Hood hinges are bad. Over the years wear and tear on the bushings allows the hood to rise in the rear.

Replace the hinges.

You can also put a washer on the front hood hinge bolt between the hinge and the hood. It will pull the back of the hood down. Old bodyman trick.

Thanks for the help'' I'll try and do the washer first as the hinges are Chrome but still are old....Will let you know the outcome!!

You may have to play with the thickness of the washers. I had to use two on one of mine, but worked well. Hope you can save the chrome hinges.

Mine does the same. I noticed a small link type thing that doesnt pull the left down the same as the right.

hinges?

My hood is tweaked and the hinges are weak, if it flys up agian I'm going to pee on my feet.

I was thinking of tilting the hood with unloaded hinges from the front and pinning the back, has any body done that?
