03 F250 5.4 Headers

Does anyone make a long tube header for the 5.4 F250, or am I going to have to make a set myself? I'd rather buy a set made for the truck, but custom headers and Y-Pipe are not beyond my abilities.

2wd or 4wd makes a difference.

Sorry, didn't mention that part cause of my username. It's a 4x4. I'm mainly looking for long tubes to pick up some extra low end torque and change the sound a bit. It's a full stock exhaust for now, but other than the headers I'm adding a high flow cat and Powerstick muffler to the rest.

As far as I know, there aren't any long tube kits specifically for the 5.4L Super Duty. I think there are long tube kits for 5.4L F150's that might make a good starting point though.

I'd rather hack up a set to work on my truck than start from scratch. Thanks, I'll start looking. :-jammin

Well, this thread caused me to finally "pull the trigger" on a set of OBX SS long-tube headers that I thought were no longer available. Over two years ago, I was looking at a set of OBX headers that included the y-pipes for the 2004-2006 F150 5.4L. They had a 3" collector and were priced at $429.00. Not a bad price... However, I procrastinated and they were replaced by a modified design, which included a tighter design at the header flange and 2.5" collectors. The new price is $495.00-$525.00. Although I liked the tighter design for clearance issues, I didn't like the price increase and I had no use for the y-pipes.

On Saturday, I checked out eBay looking for something in your application and found the original OBX headers without the y-pipe for only $229.00. Awesome! So, I made the purchase last night. I hope they work on my truck and will definitely post pics.

Here is a set of OBX headers for the 1999-2003 F150 5.4L that may fit your truck:

Very cool Andrew! Looking forward to what you find with these.

Keep me updated on how those work for ya.

I'd love to get that set without the Y-Pipe and extra pieces, but I can probably hack that up to work too. Now I have to go get a roll of stainless wire for my welder.

I'm subscribing to this thread now. My truck is an 01, and I want to redo the entire exhaust system. I see some of the shorty headers have an EGR opening, and others don't. I never really understood why these trucks can't come from the factory with headers. Pics would be great if these headers work. I'm sure I would have more questions later if they work. Good luck.

I'll keep you updated... wish me luck!

Good luck Andrew - I've often looked under mine and wondered how in the world I could ever get a set of headers in there and tightened down if I ever decide I just have to do it one day.
It was a relative breeze on my old '86. Can't say I'm ready to jump in it on my SD, though. I'll be interested to see how it goes for you and will keep my fingers crossed. :-X22

Its not that bad. I have long tubes on my 6.8l.

There is a 99.9% probability you will will run into some sort of fitment issues trying to use a 150 kit like pictured above on a SD.

Modding a set of 2V 6.8l headers may be an option.

Now, I know they are not the top of the line brand for headers, but I just got off the phone with Pacesetter, they said their Long tube headers for 99-03 F150 PN: 70-2227 are only for the F150 2x4 and 4x4. BUT, he has a customer comment in the system saying someone installed a set on a F250 SD 4x4 with no fitment issues.

I think I found my headers!! :-headbang :-fire

I'm going to buy these next week and see what's what. They have slip fit 3" collectors, so I'm still going to have to fab a Y-Pipe for this. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Excellent! Hopefully we will have one or two options for the other 5.4L Super Duty owners!

Subscribing.... Would love a good option!
Thanks,
