p0012 i have already replaced vct solenoid

Im having problems with the VCt solenoid, the engine light came on and had autozone run the code and came up with p0012. so i replaced the vct passenger side solenoid, and light was off for about an hour and then came back on, i went to have the codes checked again, and it gave me the same code. is their another sensor that could make this code come on? it does idle a little bad. any info

i called the ford service department and they the vct solenoid has to be programed into the PCM, is that true? is their a way to do it without having to take it to the, they want to charge me 220 to do it..

My truck had a rough idle and the same code. It ended up having bad cam phaser, chain tensnors, and guides. Mine was so bad it skipped a tooth and had cut 1/2" into the front cover.

The light will take 2 cycles before it comes back on after it's reset.

I have been researching the vct and I have never heard about the vct needing to be programmed.

Mine drove fine until a few weeks ago. Then one day I noticed the cel was on. I got code p0012. The engine still ran fine but my mpg dropped to 12 and had very light miss at idle.

I had the phazer knock so I took it in. After they tore it down they found a bad right side phazer, and all of the chain tensnors and guides were shot, and the timing chain skipped a tooth.

After seeing all of the damage I was surprised on how well the truck ran with the bad parts and the timing being off. I got lucky and my extended warranty paid for pretty much all of it. If not I would have been out $1400 for the repairs.
