Wiper Arm Pivot Mounting
Ok I have read about 100 posts on wipers and wiper arms, but can't find any mention of this, and the manual has nothing.
I have two Wiper Pivot shafts , both work and rotate but I can not figure out how to mount the wiper arms to them. There is no knurled round knob on them. I do not know if I have some weird 1960 only model pivot, or just missing the knurled knob ? Do I need to replace the Wiper Pivots with new? https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=237832&.jpg |
Craig,I will check my truck tomorrow, but I'm almost positive that you should have a splined shaft off the wiper linkage that mates to the matching female end of the wiper arm.It is not a one-off design just for 1960.If you've got a factory manual, and I recommend you get one, there may be a decent exploded view drawing.

I got this manual on CD but can find no wiper diagrams.
I feel the PO might of pried the wipers off and took the little knob off with the arm. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=237834&.jpg Is there A better manual? Thanks Craig |
That will be your best manual for repairs. There is a 57-63 parts and accessories disc you can get from hi-po parts. They sell on ebay,it's under 30.00,and the illustrations section is often very helpful.I'll check a vendor catalog or two to see if there are drawings, and replacement parts shown in them, but it will have to be tomorrow.

Wow, no splined knob? I've never heard of a wiper pivot without the splined knob. I think you're probably right, the PO must have "fixed" them for you. From looking at the picture I'd say you need to get new pivots

I had that problem once. On the 57 to 60 The knurled part is not listed as a seperate item, and it is a part of the pivot assembly. The knurled part looks to be a die cast part, and is swaged onto the pivot shaft end. With age and corrosion it can easily break off if you use too much force to remove the wiper arm.
I could not find a good, reliable way to reattach this piece, so I just installed a different pivot assembly. If you are looking at a used pivot assembly, closely inspect that area to make sure you are getting a good one. Hope this helps |

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000024G There ya go! My truck's PO used pliers in some manner that completely egged out the knurled piece, so I'll be doing this too. |
Interesting. Wish I had seen those two years ago. If anyone buys and installs these, let us know how they attach, image has something that looks like a set screw.
|
Yep, the originals were staked over like you said, I don't know how you could remove old ones and have enough material to re-stake. I'd also assume these are harder metal as a set screw wouldn't last long on the pot metal originals.

Thanks
I ordered the parts and will let you know how the install goes.
ALBUQ F-1 Great catch, I looked through Dennis's catalog and did not see these. Thanks everyone for your help. Craig |
Ross,
I have a set of wiper pivots and bracket for a 51/52 truck if you need them. Let me know Bobby |
Thanks Bobby, I may take you up on that, but I'm still try to do something custom and electric. I have two '52 electric setups and a VW bug system, plus a Cavalier motor... with no rain in the last 2 months, it isn't high on my list!

Ross, Its just the basic bracket set-up with 2 pivots
I've been considering what to use for a wiper motor as well. Not a big concern with out amount of precipitation....lol Bobby cbutcher...sorry for the hijack |

You might want to try an MG (prince of darkness) wiper motor and set up. You can set your pivot ( Wheelbox) spacing anywhere by just adjusting the length of your bundy tubing. If you don't want to put MG parts in your truck, just get them from a Ford Pantera same parts just a lot more expensive. Hi everyone, Craig in the link you posted, that cable drive wiper set up looks to be the same one I bought from a hot rod shop here. I am in the process of fitting it up now, the wiper arms & blades I am using are 10'' Morris Minor I bought at a swap meet a few weeks ago.
