Oil Change capacities 1997 F250 LD 5.4 Liter

Whats the oil change capacity(with filter change) supposed to be on a 1997 Ford F 250 LD 4X4 with a 5.4 liter engine?

Ive read its 6 qts. So I bought a 5 quart jug of oil with an additional quart.

I do the oil change, fire up the engine, let it circulate and shut the engine off, allowing about 1/2 hour for the oil to drain back into the pan. I check the oil and im only 1/2 way up on the dipstick...What gives?

Also whats the OEM recommended viscosity of oil supposed to be. Ive owned the truck for 5+ years and I can only remember using 5W-30. Everywhere I read now,it says the recommended oil is supposed to be 5W-20. Im confused. Was I putting in the wrong oil all along,or is this something that changed only recently?

Im not too concerned, running 5W-30 instead of the 5W-20 wont hurt anything... will it?

Halfway into the "good" area is correct.:-jammin

5w30 was what it had in it from the factory, and about 1/2 way up in the "hash marked" portion of the dipstick is correct. 6 quarts with filter.

i use 5w30 and put 6qts in and all is good, book spec isn't what ya go by anyway, that'll get ya close, just so that the oil level is above add on stick and below full, i buy 5 gal at a time and fill er up to just below full and its just over 6qts
