1988 F150 4x4 XLT Lariat Steering Column issues

im having some issues with my steering column. i am gonna replace. what years do they work from. are the plugs only for the 87-92 or will a 93-96 work as well. i know the steering wheels are different but i was wondering if it would work in my truck and still be able to use the column and change out the wheel

the plugs will be differant after 93. make sure that the new colum is for the same style tran you have. If not you will run into some problems with linkages. Its fine to put a auto trans colum into a manual trans truck. If your truck has cruise control make sure the new coullum has it also because its near impossible to rewire a collum. And just check the universal joint on the new colum for excessive play because in my state you can fail inspection for that

what is actually wrong with the column? Sometimes fixing them can be a pain but replacing them can cost more and last 1/2 as long as just fixing them... use a 87-91 column with the same tranny set up like stated above make sure you find a xl or xlt column! if you get a custom column it won't have tilt or cruise...

the whole knuckle inside is busted. well beyond rebuilding. i can get a used one here at a local JY for about 20 bucks. Has Plenty of 87-91s. Thanks Guys
