Pulling the distributor

I'm bout to install a edelbrock performer intake on my 78' 460. I know I need to pull the distributor but how can I do it to where I can install it back just how it is. I don't know anything about setting the timing so if it can be left like it is that would be really helpful. Thanks for any advice.

You can mark the position of the rotor in relation to the body and then the vacuum advance in relation to the water pump and that should have you pretty close when its dropped back in. Having said that, if you do NOT know how to clock a distributor back into time, I would seriously suggest either having someone else install the intake or seeing if you have a buddy who knows how to do it come by and help you on the install.
