Gas Tank Fill-Up slow
I have a '99 EB with the towing package and the 30 gal tank. Regardless of how much gas I need to add for a fillup, the last five (5) gallons takes forever to get into the tank as it keeps cutting off the gas pump. I realize this not earth shattering, but it is frustrating and if someone has an answer, I would appreciate it.

Gas Tank Fill-Up slow
I experienced this problem with my '90 EB Bronco w/ 32 gal. tank. The problem may be related to a kinked air vent hose or it may have come loose. My 2000 Expy shuts off before full but closer to the last 1-2gals. These larger tanks need a good size air vent to allow fumes to prevent the pump from shutting off from feedback. Some people have no problems, others do. Ford usually isn't much help unless you lead them to a solution. Do you experience some pumps being worse than others?

Gas Tank Fill-Up slow
Of the 15 or so Fords I have owned in the last 25 years, all were slow fill. Something to do with the design of the tank. Ford states in the owners manual to go to shut off at least 3 times to insure a full tank. And many times it is the pump putting out to much pressure and not giving the tank time to vent. Besides, set the shut off to slow fill, and have plenty of time to clean your windshield and check under the hood!!!!

On the Explorer newsgroup, someone posted this issue with the Explorer gas tanks as well. Someone posted a do it yourself solution:
fill tank with using the nozzle upside down method? It works! Here's the thread from that newgroup: <a href="http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001575.html">http://www.4x4central.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001575.html</a> |
