Help Code 34 KOEO

Hello
I just got a 1990 Full Size Bronco for a good price because it runs a little rougth when I pull the code I get 34 O,C,R PFE/EPT sensor fault (1.9L CFI, 2.9L, and 3.0L) / High exhaust pressure/PFE/EPT sensor fault . Can someone tell me what is a PFE and a EPT sensor and where are they located. I checked in my haynes and could not find them. O and where can I get a charcoal canister mine has a hole in it at the top.
Thanks Everyone

I think you're looking for an EVP (EGR Valve Position) sensor. It's on top of the EGR valve, should be black plastic with an electrical connector going to it. There is a procedure to test it if you have a multimeter, although with that code it's probably bad.

A wrecking yard is probably the best place to pick up a charcoal canister.

Good luck with the new Bronco.

In addition to the above, a code 34 can also indicate insufficient EGR flow. May want to replace it or possibly clean it. If it looks like its original, I'd replace it.

icanfixthat: try removing and cleaning or replacing the air bypass valve. That valve is located across from the EGR valve and can get alot of carbon buildup. When I had my 87 EB 5.0 it happened to me once or twice. Hope this helps.

OK
I gave the truck a tune up(plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel, crank case and air filter, replaced pvc valve, replaced egr and sensor, cleaned bypass. It runs better but it stills shuts off and the idel goes up and down up and down. I notice when I get into it it pings but its is a very low sound and when I come out of it and stop it shuts of everytime.
I am truly thakful for all that are helping me
Thanks

OK, icanfixthat, try this:

Remove the air tube and clean the throttle body, in the area where the throttle blade meets the housing. Carbon tends to build up there, and restricts the airflow at idle.

If this dosen't work, you may have to consider changing your user name.......:-X04

Do not use any solvents to clean the throttle body while it is still on the motor. If the solvents get inside the intake manifold it will destroy the the gasket at the upper and lower manifolds. I would suggest that you remove it to clean it.

OK
I did all of the above and it is idling good and it is running good but evrey now and again while iam driving when I come to a stop the tach drops to 500 then to 1000 then to 500,1000 and then it shuts of when I start it back up I have to press the gas and off I go again. but besides that It runs sweet with really good power. Im thinking maybe I need to pull the upper intake and give it a good cleaning tell me what you think
Thanks Again
VROOOM VROOOM Can you here it:D

Could you possibly be having trouble with the fuel injection?

You know, I am currently fighting the same thing with my '87 bronco 5.0L.

Does this sound familiar...with the egr valve vacuum line pulled, the truck idles good, but a lack of power, bad shift points, etc. I replaced the egr valve, but did not replace the evp, hooked everything up, checked vacuum to 20" hg, good to go. started it up, idled like crap, but had alot more power and the shift points seemed to improve, and the knock pretty much went away. The only thing I can come up with is the air bypass valve and/or the evp is bad. The ohms are off by 2000 ohms on the evp 3000 vice 5000.

I could use a little help here too!

you might also check your fuel pressure regulator and replace your fuel filter. if its dirty it could be causing your problem with a inconsistent idle and engine shuting down when stopped.

I just got that code cleared. It was the vacuum solenoid that goes to the EVP sensor. On the drivers side rear of the engine below the coil (on my 87). trace the vacuum line back to the egr evp sensor. The guy that fixed it said this sensor failing is really rare and hardly ever looked at. I went to a 5.0L mustang expert (race shop) and they fixed it in less than 30 minutes and that cleared code 22, 13, 42, and 34.
