6.0 good or bad buy?

I have two 7.3, and love them. Looking at buying harley f350 with 6.0. Hearing bad issues with this purchase. The truck has 80k and has had the erg cooler? and had a whole new block droped in her in 07. it sounds like the guy kept up with any maint. due to it having a good warranty. Need a newer truck for long hauls. Any suggestions?
Thanks

When the 6.0's are running good, you'll throw stones at the 7.3. :-X04 I've driven both, 6.0 is my favorite, just don't like working on it, which you will have to do if you're not ready to do strict maintenence. If you could beg, borrow or steal some guages to see if the oil cooler is plugged again (assuming they changed it when the egr cooler was changed), check the degas for signs of coolant being puked out, don't know where you're from, if it's a cold climate, make sure to test drive the truck when it's plumb cold, that will tell you if you have ficm or injector stiction problems. If the guy/dealer has it warmed up when you go to test drive, be wary. Do like I did and sit here and read as much as you can. The 6.0 won't match the 7.3 for reliabilty in most cases, but it's a great engine when running properly, more power and quieter than a 7.3

The 6.0L drives really nice when it works right. I have 137,000 miles on my 2005 F250 6.0. I bought the truck with 120,000 miles. since I have owned it, I have had to replaced the EGR cooler and oil cooler and now I have the engine out of my truck because the Head Gaskets are blown. Fortunately, I know how to work on cars, if I did not, I think I would be out 8-10 thousand dollars in repairs. The 6.0 is not for the faint of heart. It is problematic and expensive to fix. Love the look and feel of my truck so I am fixing it and hoping this is the last of the major problems. Not sure if I would go down this road again if I had a choice. Just depends how you like spending your spare time.

Thanks for the help guys. The truck comes from a hot climate, and I live in the high desert so we have cold winters. I go thru glow plugs about every 2 years on my 7.3s. I do snow removal with my 97 350 and shes a beast! I will check how it starts cold first thing, then look at getting guages. But I think I might get a extended warrenty. Hell 2800.00 for three years sounds like money well spent.

Over 60,000 miles, several of those towing a 15k 5th wheel toy hauler, absolutely zero problems with the motor. The only thing I've had to replace are the tail lights and regular maintenance items. Best truck I've ever owned, and I was a regular Toyota guy for quite some time.

Don't read into all the doom and gloom with the 6.0 there are several of us that have no issues at all.

i had a 06 6.0 that i bought at 100k and drove to 155k got scared of it an sold it and the guy i sold it to as 210k on it now and has 0 problems the 07i have now has 82k on it with nothig touched i love the 6.0 trucks and it doesnt matter what you buy there are some that give problems you cant make stuff as fast as they do and expect everything to work perfact all the time

I think I will pull the trigger on it! Cant Wait!
I believe the warranty is with Dymer Chrysler? for the next 4 months, then to renew it is 2800 for 3 years.
Thank again for all the comments.

Keep it under warrenty

My 6.0 in 3 years cost-ed ford over 12k. It left my family on the side of the road. I bought it with 50k on it and sold it at 80.
This is the engine that caused ford and international to break their long standing contract, ford also lost a class action law suit by ambulance fleets. There are other trucks out there.

I have been some what impressed with my 2004 250 overall and I was a skeptical of the 6.0 at first..I have had to replace the ICP and oil pump so far (under warranty) and have 85 K on the ticker bought her with 40 K. As everybody has or will mention here the biggest thing is the maint., keeping all the fluids and filters clean and changed regularly. I haul 10K - 11 K (Travel Trailer / 2 quads on rack in bed) pretty regularly through the summer months and this truck pulls like a friggin' champ! just my 02 though of course...IMO most of the problems with these 6r's are caused by neglected maint. from previous owners or the current ones. This motors require TONS of Maint. and loves to be worked!

Maintinence is the key. I have a 06 6.0 that I bought brand new, it now has 45,000 mi. zero problems. change your oil every 5,000 mi and change fuel filters every 15,000 mi

6.0

Maintenance was done and it made no difference, Ran with Gauges, secondary oil filtration and coolant filter. Head gaskets and Bed plats and FICM don't break because of maintenance. The people that tow with this truck will have more problems. It is true that you will have more problems if your don't do the proper maintenance. Sorry the 6.0 is just a bed design. Remember this is the engine that Ford Sued International harvest over and WON. If you want the Truth talk to a diesel repair shop.

The people I know with this truck tow and they all have some issues.

I have been fortunate and my 6.0 has served me well, and I expect it to serve me for a long time to come. I bought it new in 2005 and now have around 122K miles on it. The biggest issue I have had is the EGR cooler started leaking. I removed the cooler and haven't had any major issues since.

The EGR delete is a great thing. I would have installed it if I lived in a state without diesel smog laws. With the EGR delete in place I would have had more service from my 250. How do you have your tunner set? I ran my diesel with the stuck tune.
